Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Packer Sunday To Everyone.....sure hope we can pull off a win at soldier field.

Been busy lately....went to my friends 50th anniversary party at Hortonville. Their son and daughter own the drive inn there, and last week they bought a bar. That's where the party was. Good time for sure. They had a wonderful turnout and saw folks they haven't seen in years. Hard to believe that milestone is in my sights...hope I can make er that long.

Yep, I could see the northern fowl mites on the sick hen. If the birds have a residue on their feathers then I'd check closely.

If your coop is new than the chance of red mites having moved in is very slim....older coops .... it works well in the evening or early morning to wipe the roosts where there is cracks with a white rag....red smidges means you are wiping mature mites that have fed. The immature ones will look like small gray clumps.

GO PACK!

Happy cccooolllddd December Sunday everyone and Merry Christmas! It has been a llooonnnnggg time since I have been able to be on here and check up on all the chicken chatter. Life sometimes has a way of interrupting things and the ability to enjoy the simple things.
So for the new year, I will start a new job and hopefully have a lot more time with my family and those simple things I enjoy. Like my horses, my gardens and of course MY CHICKENS! :)
I am down to 20 now.. all the chicks I got this spring are laying. I think both Marans that were laying dark chocolate eggs met their demise :-( I have not had a chocolate egg now in many many weeks.... I am very sad and would like to get a few more this spring. by that time I will have about 6 that will be old and need to enter the "circle of life"... I think that I would like to get some laced wynndotes, they look pretty, I think some speckled Sussex and buff orps. I like them. chicken math is a funny thing !!! LOL
My new job will have me traveling all over WI, IL and MN, but home heaps more. Which will also help with my chicken math :) LOL I will be able to pick up new chickens on the way home ... God does work in mysterious ways !!
I am very happy to be able to be home and enjoy simple chicken chat with fellow cheeseheads again.
I look forward to catching up and chatting.

Congrats on the new job..

Bittersweet holidays here.

all was well for Christmas day Good food, no company over. Christmas night our yellow Lab died of what we think was a flipped/ blocked bowel. I guess it is less rare in with Labs.

So, the chickens are safe, but my DD3 is really taking it badly. She has crawlled over and layed on that dog for her entire life. No fun digging a grave this time of year either.

Dang JJ that sucks. I am so sorry.

were there no symptoms?

I posted some videos of the kittens on FB. I am a bit concerned that the belly on Jinx is a bit big for four months........ and of course I have gone online and researched what could cause a bloated belly in a 4 mo kitten and get horrific results..... so I am going to try and NOT worry until after the Vet sees both of these buggars.

Not much happening here. We are taking a stab at the colored water balloon project again tonight. Since it is going to be so cold I think they will all freeze solid this time (and of course we also have them completely exposed to the air as well).

I'll post pics of our results later....

tough break for sure.. you can never replace a good dog.. you will have other good dogs, but they are all good in their own unique way..

.....jimiinwisc.......,
That is so true. We've been blessed with some really nice dogs over the years, and each was different but endearing in their own way.

Nothing new here..... night all!

Jj, so sorry to hear about your lab :'(

Bbl4 has the kitten been dewormed? When I worked at the shelter, big bellies meant the largest amount of worms passi g after deworming. Did I miss something with the water baloon experiment?

Del, co grats on the new birds :) always very exciting!
