Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Cind, it might be something going around. I've had nausea for a week. Today was the first day I didn't. I hope you are feeling better real soon. Cute flock!

Mel, congrats and good luck with the interview!

Jinx might just have an upper resp. infection. They are soooooo common in kittens. An antibiotic will clear it right up. If her eyes get runny, that is a sure sign.

Kristi, so sorry about your roo. I am a firm believer in putting vits/electros in the chickens water all winter long. I can't get out to observe the birds like I do in the summer, so I try to help keep them healthy that way. It really made a difference with my hen. As for roos, I love my orps, but if you were looking at bantams, I just love my seabright, Floyd. He is such a sweetie. He will jump up on my shoulder while I do the chores. And he has a rose comb, as opposed to the orps single.

Ang, while you are waiting for the test results, I'd still try the electros. And maybe some yogurt mixed with your mushy feed. I am glad he is a bit better. Good job!

Nothing new here. Sweet dreams, all!

Thanks Irish.... not sure what I'm going to do with all of them, I don't dust much so that could be an issue.

Yep Dan, that's where you get wooden eggs! These are mostly roosters but I would guess once the hens get settled I'll have wooden eggs for Easter! Hope that little legless one lays, she seems OK with her little cart though.

CC... I seem fine for the most part, then blah! An hour or 2 later, I feel OK again.

Guess that's it.... Night All!

good morning,, too early to comment on anything I have done, because I haven't done anything yet today.. just had a cuppa , is all..

Cind, the best kind of flock to have, no feed, and no water.. and you get wooden eggs..

I D K what electrolytes are .. I heard that Gatorade is .. do you give that to your chickens ?

today is the change over day for layer feed.. I hope It does not bridge in that large feeder I have, the granuals always flowed OK .. but ground feed ???

.........jiminwisc............

Cind, are there any makers marks on those wooden chickens? You never know, they might be worth some $.

Snowing here, supposed to get 4-6".

CC, thanks. I am pretty sure it is just an upper resp. infection, but worrywart me goes straight to the worst possible outcome....... They both have to go in for booster shots in a week or so, I'll mention it to the vet when I am there.

Up until midnight and now up at six????? Ugh..... time to make coffee.

delish, I live right down the road from where the bash is held. The feed mill is prolly 5 miles from Camp...maybe a thought to secure some if you plan on attending this year would be more cost effective, due to the price of gas. While they aren't open on the weekends, a early Friday arrival to the bash, or I can help with a pick-up for you, or show Joe the way with help, Anyway it's....

Speaking of the bash....the date is in stone and I should prolly start a chickenstock thread.... Maybe we can make this the best one ever....it is a must event for all...the children that come have as gooda time as the parents...the secure location allows them to run free and be carefree...it's all about family and friends...and it's affordable for those with tight budgets....I promise. Food , Fun, and folks that talk chickens without a fowl look anywhere. I hope all the old friends can make it, and new ones can be made.

Peace..bigz
Thanks so much..Joe said thanks a ton. We will probably take you up on your offer and make a trip soon than come Friday early for the bash and get some than too.

good morning, looks like the guy up north is going to luck out on this weather,,dusting of snow predicted but a north wind bringing back some colder temps

Cind being a crafter I'm sure you can turn those wooden eggs into the "golden" variety

Jim electrolytes are just like Gatorade for animals,,,,I have used them anytime there is stress created,,,weather, moult, critter attacks. They insure the birds(in this case) get all the vitamins, minerals, etc they need. I have used a few different brands all seem to work well. Right now I have a product from Kent,,,,1/2tsp per gallon of water. The packet I get makes like 300 gallons cost is about $6. I did have some that also included pro biotics, most contain an acidify er which eliminates the need for ACV. Buy it at the feed store.

As to the discussion on feeds/mills etc,,,,I wouldn't expect to get well cared for feed at a box store,,,I'm sure whole pallets get lost in warehouses, damp, etc. My birds have always preferred crumbles or pellets (less waste) for over a year I have been using "Big Gain" they have a plant in Lodi and dealers all over the state (google will find the link) food has always been good, birds do well on it. I just started mixing layer with game bird grower which bumps the protein and also adds animal protein to the diet. So far it's working well,,,,just started that last week we'll see how it goes now that breeding season is upon us.

Snowy morning everyone

suppose to end up with 3-5" by tonight- DH went to pick up a couple parts for the snow blower so that will be ready for tonight.

DS(12) is home again today- has a slight fever and cough yet- was home yesterday too- poor kid, yesterday was his 12th birthday and he spent it feeling blah- slept off and on all day. Hoping that he will go back tomorrow(has to pass out his birthday treat!)

Baby chicks are getting bigger- probably going to have to swap some birds around to give them a bigger space. Baby rabbits are getting bigger- almost 7 weeks now. If all goes well we will have another couple rabbit litter beginning of Feb

DD and DS(8) are hoping that we get things figured out so that their 4-H projects can move forward!

Watching 2 extra dogs for friends of ours- they are planning to be back today, I'm sure the dogs will be happy to go home- we don't let them on furniture!

Best go and get the rest of the chores done- chickens probably want to eat and maybe go outside for awhile...

Have a good one, stay safe!

Good late morning--exactly what I am heading off for H&R! Now that the snow has stopped I can get out there. Skinny horse will probably want his blankie back on! I will have to see if he is shivering...he doesnt grow much of a coat at all!
Speaking of horses...guess who got to RIDE yesterday?
wee.gif
DD21 was in town and it was no nice to go for a ride with her! I havent been riding since Melanie was here with her kids! I am really missing my friend that lived down the road...we had a standing riding date every Tuesday...

Just had a phone call from BigZ! I will be setting up the bash thread very soon--probably this afternoon. I will link it in my signature so everyone can read up. It would be appreciated if we keep the bash thread just for bash information and replies...it gets to be a lot to keep up with if we get two threads going gangbusters!

OK--out for chores and then to take Liza back to the vet for another blood check...she seems to be doing OK.

Later! TerriO
