Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I am looking around, trying to get ideas for a bigger coop.

I found a combo greenhouse/shed here:

Does this look like something that could be turned into a coop?
Maybe if you can block some of the windows and/or get an industrial fan for the summer. I have a greenhouse similar to that & it gets hot. I'd recommend insulating too because they are frigid in the winter.

Terri, I love those thick wool sweaters. Mine have been making the rotation this winter for sure because I don't keep the temp up too high in the house either.

Awesome pics, Mel.

Cute chicks, Vicki, and great shipping advice.

We weren't getting too many eggs the past few days so DH looked around. Sure enough, he found a hidden nest with 9 frozen eggs in it.

Darn it all................

Oh yeah. Impacted crop. Feel his crop. Does it feel hard & solid or soft & gushy? Does he have free choice grit? I can't see that an impacted crop would cause sneezing, but it might cause coughing. I have never heard of impacted gizzard before.

Since Tommy is such a boozer,

, take about a tablespoon of olive oil and add to 1 cup of water, or whatever his drink of choice may be. I did some research on it & many people say to put the oil in a syringe & force it to them, but I didn't care for that. I found putting it in their water did the trick just fine. I had a hen with it & I had her separated so it was easy for me. It only took 2 days & her crop softened right up. They also recommend massaging the crop after you give them the oil. I did that a few times a day after I saw her drinking. It worked great.

good morning,, I normally do not get up this early, but Annie got up and made a potta.. one just cannot sleep while smelling that ..

am having a cuppa ..
The USPS insurance covers only cracked eggs, doesn't it ? IDK if it covers scrambled eggs..
You have to remember, there are a few "mental giants" working in the sorting rooms and they will purposely drop kick a box marked fragile, just for funsies ..

I once received such a a package in the mail.. when I went to pick it up, the mail person told me to come inside and get it,, he refused to touch it.. the package was all but gone and the contents were spilling out ..

another example : when I was in the army we used to send cassettes instead of writing letters.. One of the guys sent a cassette to his Mom,, the mental giants in the post office opened his package and did some recording of their own .. then repackaged it and sent it on it's way.. the family was shocked that their son would send such filth to them,, not knowing what really happened.

just saying ..

Nothing new here . we need some warmer weather.. this is the longest winter I have ever experienced ..

Insurance covers many things including scrambling, air cell detachment, embryo damage, infertility, and many more.

Great advise
Also for impacted gizzard (sometimes caused by eating things on the floor like dog hair) add molasses to water.

ummm, I ain't buying that one. Maybe if you insure through "Lloyd's of London" but USPS I highly doubt it.

The couple of times I did get shipped eggs I had to open the box in the PO at the counter to check for broken or cracked eggs,,,,that was it. How would you know at that time if any other conditions were present and why would the transporter cover infertility?

just my experience and opinion

A little better outside today than it's been for months. It will be nice when some of this snow resides, so a person can venture off the packed down paths we all have.

Needed to show off the 7 year badge that byc finally developed. It's a process for them to come up something they like. Prolly see if jennie has any ideas for the 8th year that will be here before long. Time really does fly!

Have any of you heard of this farm? They seem to carry a LOT of different breeds of chickens...... I am tempted to meet them up in Plover on the 18th..... They have your SFH too.

I have heard very mixed reviews as others have said. They dont say too much on their web site unless I missed it...

Teacher that looks like a really cool shed! But thinking about the 8x10 size and picturing me standing in there it's not too much room! I think it would be unbearable in the summer and chilly on cloudy days at least in the winter. Sure wouldnt mind having it for plants though! The guy that I get my heirloom plants from built one with similar lines on the side of his shed. The ceiling is about 20' though and the building sticks out at least 15' and is Long too. He grows the BEAT plants in there!

Thanks Vicky for the molasses info. So you HAVE heard of impacted gizzard then? I have been giving him tomato juice (no vodka) for 3 days now and his wheezing does seem better (I think). He doesnt get to walk around too much because of the dogs but who knows? I just want him to get better! I know it is nothing to do with his crop cause it is empty every morning like normal. It is just a very strange thing...and how can tomato juice be helping it?

OK--timer is ringing...guess my break is over! Later! TerriO

Thanks for the kind words TO. Yep, there was less than 100 folks I think back then...it grew really fast though, eh! Nifty has me beat by one month

must be certain perks the guy has....

We have lost a lot of good friends here over the years...and we have gained new ones to replace the lost ones....I'll glady pass these old year badges on to you guys, that I once wore. It's been quite the ride with a lot of good memories.

I see they busted a cock fighting ring in New York State....sad to think it still goes on.

Suzie is winding down on your cross stich CC...maybe I'll be able to talk to her again without her head bent and fingers moving...lol!

Time for breakfast for supper.... bigz

good afternoon,,
Terri, if the chicken's crop is empty in the morning , each morning, then I do not think he has an impacted gizzard .. especially if his poop chute is working.. the feed has to be moving through..

he prolly has whiskey voice ..

my dr appt went well,, surgery on Feb 24..

the puppies are really looking more like little dogs.. they are starting to wrestle with each other ..
too cute.. \\

every time I remember to take the camera along, they all go to sleep.. I took a few shots anyway ..

a pile of puppies inside their new corral..

Nobody know the trouble I seen,, I'm innocent, I tell you..
