Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

You are prolly right bl4...they must spice it up with something that kicks even a little...plain tea seems kinda boring.

Suzie is cutting up some gala apples to go with the warm oatmeal that the girls get every afternoon. I still have almost 10 pounds of apples left. The gala apples really keep well, and are my favorite for crunching and apple pudding cake.

Then she is going to make a fresh pecan pie to go with the beef short ribs and bear ribs/ho-made barby sauce...buttercup squash and a baked potato. Prolly need a few crunches tomorrow morning just to keep the pant size going. It's tuff here in the badger state to keep the weight off....with comfort food so close and goodie.

The snow looks good and comphy laying right where it is....

Not sure I will get my new coop....DH ran into my side mirror when he was putting his tractor in the garage. It is going to cost over $700 for a stupid mirror!!!

Lock down going well, thanks for all the advice, Jim. I need to go buy chick food today and get a brooder ready. We have a big one in the garage, but we only have 5 eggs in the bator so I will just rig up something in the house.
I did order some eggs from Michigan, they will be sent Monday. Hopefully I will get a chick or two from the 6 eggs. I have heard that Swedish Flower Hens have a low hatching rate anyway, so we will keep our fingers crossed.

Can't you go to a junk yard and get a mirror?

Alright bigZ, I made two loaves of banana nut bread since your last post, and dinner which consisted of meatloaf, garlic sour cream mashed potatoes, and mixed veggies. Oldest DD made valentines cookies for her BF so we have leftovers for the rest of us. I should post a pic since her cookies are so cute......

Aw miss, those are cute :)
Bigz, did you ever get the snow cleared? Lol
Jim, I will say a little prayer for you that day.
Decent hatch here :) 9 blue Andalusia, 6 blue laced red wyandotte, and 1 silver laced wyandotte! And I set more eggs last night! Lol
Del, no single comb this time around! Must have been blackie :-( he is in the pen now. I want to redoo just to be sure. For now I am marking the eggs with a ? Because idk if sauce or blackie will be daddy. How long before I can be sure. I waited 4 weeks before. Is that sufficient? Or cohld I go less?

chickens are so weird..
If you need a batch of eggs fertilized for show and you put show bird together for 3 weeks and pull out eggs for those three weeks..let them out to range and collect for a few more days..those last few days will have a different daddy..lol

it takes 25 hours for semen to fertilize a new egg after you take one bird out, but semen can stay in a bird for weeks and fertilize eggs. They say 3 week but I simply do not really know. I have locked them up and started to collect after 14 days. My BLRW are so darn cute..I am getting some odd looking chicks..they don't have a lot of stripes.

good morning, happy Valentine's day ..

I like to isolate the chickens for a month.. ` my main drawback is that if I want early spring eggs, I do not have a warm/protected pen for isolation.. so as of right now, I cannot start to isolate anyone ..
I need two more coops.. never have enough of those, do we ?

I think I will start Ollie up today and move some of this accumulation .. we don't seem to get one storm with a lot of snow, just a lot of storms with a little snow.. then all of a sudden it is knee deep..

puppies are doing very well,, they will be weaned in a week or so.. Dora will be so happy about that..

thanks for all the good wishes toward me..

Happy Valentines Day!!

Jim,

As far as the pups..will you be putting them outdoors soon with mom? When do you let them go to a new forever home?
Do you handle them often? Are you looking to place them as family dogs or more for working dogs? or both? I can't get one from a shelter since they will not let a working dog go that is not bonded with people. They refuse to let people have farm working dogs that are kept with farm animals.
I am interested in a female pup..that is why I am asking. I need a working dog who will bond with chickens. If you let your pup go to a home that have it working outdoors at all times in all weather, I would like one please.
