I have always used dormant oil spray thinking that would keep the buggers from coming out of the bark...Not sure I want to bag the tree... wonder how those waxed paper bags would hold up? Gardening and chicken raising must have been a whole lot simpler before the internet

My in-laws have these bright red sticky balls that they hang in their trees as traps. It does a pretty decent job too! They also spray their trees with a clay mix to keep the worms out of the apples.

Well I called the insurance co and they said I don't have ice and snow protection so the shed is a loss but did mention I have 20,000 on my homeowners personal property that could cover some of the things in the shed. I do know when I added the personal property I did replacement cost. It's not going to amount to much as I don't think most of the things are considered personal property. I have a dirt bike there that was squashed, a Honda Spree, numerous truck parts. The doors for my 81 chev resto project, 2 razorbacks that were crushed, 2 toneau covers,had all the parts to redo the front of my 96 chev, doors fenders and hood, so many truck parts. My 72 vette motor and numerous motor parts. Some brand new windows that were suppose to go in the house this summer. 2 rolling tool boxes, lawn mower, kenmore dryer, nearly new slide in electric stove I was putting in this coming year, etc etc etc.The loss just keeps adding up. They're coming out at 2pm tomorrow to look at it and something better be covered or I'm dropping them for insurance.

Delish-that makes sense. With Diesel the thick clear liquid was about an hour or two before he died and was all down his neck-is i common for it to be that long before the die? :-( Makes me sad thinking about him all over again.

I haven't been giving any ACV due to the fact I am using metal waterers on heated bases I may try to put some out tomorrow when the temps are above freezing for awhile and see if it helps too!

I don't think they have anything that is common. You are not always gong to find the slime. Many times the other birds sort of pick them clean I think out of curiosity..this time of year it gets too hard to pick clean. I have never seen it in my old hens. It does not mean it does not happen, I just have never seen it. I have only discovered one unexpected dead hen. I usually cull any old hen I know is loosing weight before they expire. Hens at 5 or 6 years..stop laying..then they start to loose weight..If they are healthy I let them live..they deserve it with years of service and good egg laying.They are usually good with keeping order . If they are under four and stop laying they are soup chickens.

I noticed tonight that my bantam salmon faverolles hen has a swollen foot. Brought her in to lance it and noticed her 5 toe had severe frostbite - probably the cause if infection in her whole foot. I soaked it in Epsom salt water and gave her a penicillin shot. I'll do that for the next 4 days, I hope she recovers, but its seriously not looking good

poor thing. This winter sucks!

UGH! Hope you get that sorted out quickly!! I have one that seems to favor one foot by holding it up a lot. He walks OK and is too fast for me to catch easily. It doesn't look swollen so I'm hoping it's nothing that will play out as a problem before I can catch him.

I backed out of the driveway this afternoon to go check on the chickaroos and got stuck for a few mins. Got to the end of the street and started to spin my wheels so I decided to just let the hubs stop by on the way home. I shoveled off the deck and I'm out of breath. SO I'm done with this snow for today. Hot cuppa tea and a fluffy dog on my lap for the remainder of the day!

Same kinda thing happened to me Irish! Finally got out of the driveway to head to work for my afternoon client (morning was no problem) ad as I got to the highway to her house it was a white out! The plows hadnt even been out. Called the client and cancelled, turned around and came back home! Of course as I was heading up the snowy walk to the house the plow went by finally! I am glad I am home...DS's 25th birthday is today and we wanted to take him out to dinner...we will see I guess.

SO I had some time and as long as we are talking about sick birds I took a video of Tommy and his wheezing. Make sure you have your sound on and let's see if any of you have any ideas to get rid of this!

I just want to get rid of it! It sounds so bad!

OK--going to clean the house a bit now...gotta use the extra time wisely!
