Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Ugh, tired, just got in. Have been outside all day turning my little coop into a taller coop and reinforcing it as it got blown off its foundation and wounded this past fall. We get some impressive winds through there, coops was (repeat WAS) lighter weight, so just the right ridiculous wind gave it a tumble.

Before, can't see it but the supports under the coop are broken. After (night shot, just got done cleaning up my toys, er, tools).

Now it's tall enough for me to walk in, added a bunch of weight to the bottom and dug the posts in, just need to buy hinges for the door that is sitting off to the left. The old door is now the window at the top of the new door, lol. Think I used up all of my scraps of 2x4s, 2x2s, 1x3s and 1x4s. It looks a little gypsy, but hey, it was "free" parts. It'll look much better once I've painted the whole thing up. My back is sore, but got a lot more done than I thought I would. Add feeder, waterer, bedding, and hinges and she'll be good to go. There's now a pop open door under the nest box area to open and rake out the pen as needed. Built a ladder up to the now quite high up opening to the coop, added a bunch of perches, buried the legs and wire on the side away from the camera. Hopefully it'll be more stable now. By next weekend, should be able to move a breeding group into that one. :)

Also touched up the growout shed today, fixed the door that had some loose, added some hanging nests and perches. Fixed it so I can leave one door open with the other one latched.

Next up, I need to get the roof on my new pair of breeding pens, get the wire on it, and get the doors made. That's going to take more than an afternoon. :p
Can't do much until I can make a lumber run, I'm out of the longer stuff.

Delisha-yes she is setting. I put her into the blue tupperware box and initially she only tucked 2 eggs in. So I started putting the rest in. When I put in the blue ones, she looked at me and them crossed eyed. Later in the day she got up to eat and run around the yard and when she went back into the coop another hen had laid an egg in the "normal" area so she hopped upon it. I moved her to the blue box where she stayed all night. But today when she came off she went back to the normal area so I moved the eggs out of the blue box to where she wants to be...the normal spot. You know those darn chickens don't like change.

Bbl4, that looks like a wonderful way to end your evening!
Clark, how tall are the boxes? Our trays are about 3" and they jump out.
Jim, I just had the most weird visual of you mushing a pack of Marema!!!!! Lololol
Hurley, sounds like the most productive day ever! That feels good :)

Syd did amazing! She was very nervous. Even cried before we left. But after, she was done, she thought it wasn't too bad. I am a proud mama :)
Chciks are coming a day early. I always get so nervous at this part. Especially since part of this hatch is for someone else. I have two blrw pipped. I do not want to work 12's tomorrow! I like to be here when they first come out of the bator. We already had two mg out this afternoon!

They are around 3 inches, I am only doing this in case they hatch while I may be asleep. I'm home most of the time so will be able to catch most of it to get them banded right away and into the brooder which I'm still working on making dividers or I'll just go buy 2 more totes and put wire mesh on the top like one I have already. My other one is wooden and it made to fit my old brooder hood. I just don't know where I'm going to put all this in the house. Last year when I started it was June and warm enough in the addition I could have them all out there. Their sitting in the middle of my kitchen right now and the incubators are in my living room. You can barely move with all that and the baby stuff everywhere.

Hi All!

Hurley.... That looks like it should work if the posts are dug in. How high is it now?

Hummm..... Jim mushing a pack of Marema in his tutu and sandals

Well, it was a wonderful for the birds to be out!!! However, DH put out the FF (mash) for them..... and didn't open their door!!! Poor things were cooped up until about 2pm when I realized I hadn't seen any birds out! Boy did they make a mad dash to that food!

Ok BigZ said DrHaha is OK. Can anyone get hold of Frenchie?

About time some of these people come out of hibernation.

That's it... Night All!

Another lady is coming to pick up Bo.. or maybe one of the puppies..

I have to check with the airport to see if I can ship a puppy to Ohio from this small airport ..
if I have to drive to Madison, I might as well meet the guy half way ..

I have not been outside yet. but the water is dripping off of the roof , always a good sign ..

one cold swallow of coffee left in my cup.. life is good..

Dr H is OK,, he had another operation for his other ear .. FT ? who knows ? she was going to do a sleep test or something ? maybe she didn't wake up , yet..

Frenchie is alive and well, she is just spending all her time over on facebook.

Heather, I have no idea what you are talking about.........

We have a mamma squirrel up in our sliver maple by the garage. The nest is from last year but she must be using it again. Last night we tossed a bunch of Brazil nuts up on the roof of the garage for her, there are still some up there yet this morning and if the rain holds off the rest will disappear as well.

Off to take some quizzes for my class and then the daily job hunt.

Loving this weather...... I do not care if it is cloudy outside, it is nice that we are above 32*!

Windy afternoon

here, sun is out and we are at 59* but the wind makes it challenging to say the least.

Working on trying to boil down sap.....not working very well...have 25 gal to go and haven't checked the trees yet....had to try and make a wind block on all sides of our kettle set up and it is slow going....

so far we have 4 chicks hatched and 1 pip...of course the 4 that are hatched out are loud and complaining

must not like their accommodations!

Kids have school tomorrow and then off for spring break. Of course I have a unit to work on so not sure what/if any fun things we'll do

here is a picture of our French angora bunnies in the nest box, 11 days old now. You can see the white one I am touching, there is a white one to the right and then the blue or lilac tort next to it, the other 2 are back further in the box

best go and check my kettles again.
