Calm before the storm to everyone. Monthly meeting at camp tonight. I hope the storm holds off until everyone is home safely...suzie is making a big kettle of chili with jim's dinner rolls, some sharp cheese and apple pudding cake for desert.

Dang prolapse cooties...sounds like you are doing a good job. Some folks keep them warm, but also keep them in a dark area to hopefully keep them from laying and try to prolong the healing time longer before she lays again. Yours doesn't sound as serious as it can be....sometimes you have to shove the vent back in place....hopefully your hen will recover....sometimes it's just to serious to have the hen recover. Prep H is a good remedy to use.

Glad bobbie is staying away sam...they can be awful brazen. Good to hear the night guards are working for you.

I agree with selling and not buying at the swaps Hurley. I think someone on here has a link to a lot of the swaps going on in Wi....maybe they can post it for folks to see again. I'm not into strange folks stopping by either.

And the snow and sleet has started here, starting to cover the ground. They are saying 8-10 for us, this is sickening I tell ya, just sickening!

A lady called at work the other day saying her rooster died and all of her chickens were sneezing. I asked if her bedding was wet and a few other things. I recommended corid and that she clean up her coop. She called again today. One chicken dying per day. No bloody poop, everyone in sneezing. She then proceeds to tell me that she had added some adult birds to her flock. The lady promised they were healthy . . . Guess where they were from?! Grrr . . . I told her to report it to the DATCP. And to call the "hatchery" in Woodville and demand her money back. I am so mad right now. I wish there was more I could do to protect people (and chickens) from this woman.

Yup I know how you feel BBP. and why isn't it common sense that if you get new animals to separate them at first?!? - oh, that's right! There are not many people out there to research and actually use common sense nowadays...

Yes, was snowing a bit earlier today. Then let up, about an hour ago it started sleeting. Now back to slight snow. Gosh. I really do not like those long cold and snowy winters.
And Stacie, we got "upgraded" to getting 8-12" during the next coupla days. And then up to 51 on Sunday. Fun and joy on these weather changes!

It was funny this morning:
Went out to collect the eggs. 3 duck eggs (our chickens wait til later in the day for whatever odd reason) that I was trying to reach in their coop. Of course I spooked them and a stampede started, cracking on egg in the process. So I tossed that one a bit away and what do those buggers do? They all run after the tossed egg and fight for the shell, one will snatch it up and gets chased through the yard for it, while the chickens meanwhile gobble up the remaining yolk. What a sight!

Okay, having dinner now with SO coming back from work. Later!

Well, really good news! The city that borders ZIon (which is the city I live in) is called Beach Park and they just announced today that they are allowing 6 hens per 1/2 acre and 10 for an acre. I emailed the head of the Building department in Zion to share the news and to ask how far along in the process they are!

I know you're excited, but it makes me mad that the government tells us what we can have for pets in our own yard. Am I the only one that's fed up with the government (and insurance companies) controlling every aspect of or lives? And we have "lawmakers" working every day to make more laws for us to live by. Why? When will it stop? Sorry, just ranting about everything today.

bbp-I agree to an extent. I can see the benefit for some circumstances, but I would definitely say that the amount that the government hinders the individual right outweighs the benefit for most scenarios.

Not looking forward to the upcoming storm. They are saying we could get anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 an inch of ice.

I cannot move out of here fast enough................................
