Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Cs, the rabbit pen is 8'x3'. And 3'tall. And the hutch is 1'tall. And from corner to corner is 2'. That is the front part.
Your hubby could probably make it any size you like! Just be sure to stretch the wire on the inside. Otherwose they will chew the wood sides! I also keep untreated chunks of wood in their pens so they always have a way to ware their teeth down.
I have to move our ground pens multiple times a day. Because they try to dig to china!

Welcome Jessica!

We're almost neighbors.

It was beautiful here today (except for the cold wind, that my DH and DD kept telling me to stop complaining about). :)

We installed 2 3# packages of honeybees today - first time beekeepers for us! Went very smooth, lots of bees buzzing around but neither myself or my DH got stung!!

And yes, Jim, we miss you!! and your stories about your pups, chickens and garden projects!

Please more info on ordering the bee, type, hives, etc

Jim: what didn't you like about he seed tape jig? I thought it looked handy.

Looks like we have a broody Delaware, so I'm looking for RIR eggs to set under her. Anyone know of someone within an hour or so of Madison that would have eggs? My hubby found someone on CL in the Lake Geneva area, I may respond to their ad, but would feel better if I purchased from someone known to some of you.

Quote: I have not ruled out the jig yet.. It just might not be as necessary as I thought ..

I am waiting for my tiny seeder to come, sometime this week..
then I will try different methods of making the tapes..
UnkaDan sent me a video to watch on U tube that showed a simple way of making them with TP.
If I knew how to copy and paste, I would send it to you..

It depends on where you live.. If you live in the rural area, you just build a nice big coop.
If you are in the city and an outlaw, you have to keep a low profile and be clever with your smaller type coop..

the main thing is to keep the ducks and chickens dry and out of the wind..

some people like to add a little bit of heat inside the coop during the coldest part of winter..
just enough heat to keep the water from freezing is enough..

you will soon discover that ducks goal in life is to spatter all of the water out of the dish as quickly as they can.... size of the dish makes no difference .. this in turn makes a wet environment for the chickens.. not really a good thing ..

you will get a lot of advice about this in the days to come..

Fernie - Glad that you and DH are OK, I'm sure that was pretty stressful.

Wildsam - Nice duck pictures

Chickenscratch - Honeybees... we got them from a guy in Big Bend, Andy Hemken. We purchased all of our hive equipment and clothing through Dadant in Watertown, WI. I installed the hives, with some help from my DH, in my normal clothing and a bee veil. I had read that they would not be aggressive yet since they have nothing to defend at this time. I wore no gloves and since I was using a spray bottle with sugar water in it, I had sugar on my hands, the bees were crawling on my hands to eat the sugar... none of them attempted to sting me. I was more excited about installing these packages than afraid. My DD15 watched the 1st install from around 15 feet away, the 2nd install from around 100 ft away. It was crazy how many bees were buzzing around.

Jim - Nice to see you back.

Spent the whole day outside, dividing my current chick coop yard into 2 (I have a 4x6 coop and a makeshift integration coop in the same enclosed area).. now I have them split so I can raise 2 different pure breeds at the same time, separately. Whoo hoo. Decided I'm getting out of the selling eggs at $3.50 a dozen and into raising a breed to improve it's quality. Sounds more enjoyable to me and I've been selling eggs to people at work since 2009, just tired of it :) Also, cleaned out the coop in my backyard, finally thawed out enough to get started. It was disgusting, thought I might pass out from the smell. I told my DH that I think I lost a years worth of my life working around that sh....

Congrats to the best time of your life 1876...it's why I enjoy heritage breeds so much....and don't care about a profit...that's just a imagination anyway, making money...IMO... that's for the stock market...

good afternoon,

I just got off of the phone with the lady who bought Bo and the puppy.. she is so thrilled with them both..

the puppy has already bonded with her chickens.. that is the main reason she wanted a puppy..
Bo is just going to be the family pet and guard against lions and things larger..

she is going to send me some pictures.. she lives near Sheboygan (sp)

She did not tell her DH that she was bringing two dogs home with her.. I asked her how he took the news.. he only found out when she got home.. she said all he did was close his eyes for a moment .. Now he has accepted them and is happy to have them..

after a few days, Bo chewed off his tie strap.. more or less to say, enough.. I know where I belong .
He is free to roam the property now.. the puppy is free also, but she stays right with the chickens..
