this is my main coop nests.. the egg nests are under the brooder pens .. that chicken is standing in the brooder pen.. there are sliding doors on each of the four pens..
the roof is slanted to keep the chickens off.. there are four light switches. one for each brooder pen.. OR I can remove the partitions and make it into one long brooder pen with only one or two lights turned on.. I can accomodate hundreds of chicks in this pen..

there are 10 nests.. the chickens use about 4 of them..
IDK what goes on in a chickens head.

each nest is removable for cleaning ..
I still have not trained the chickens from pooping in them..

this whole nest/pen is suspended from the wall.. no legs underneath ..

That is an awesome idea for a coop. Very thought out. My plan is to make my coop between an 8x8 or a 10x10 not exactly sure yet. However we acquired 3 new Pekin ducks this afternoon that are about a week old. So much for only having our 6 hens! We have them all in the same brooder box right now and they seem to be getting along well together. Will there be any issues with them co-existing together? Will the ducks be fine with the chicks in a coop and all? Are duck eggs good for eating? Any advice you guys could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here is Theo sleeping in his partially built dog house earlier today. He had a big day today. We started off walking the perimeter of the property today, ate breakfast, and went to the vet. He got his first distemper and dewormer. He weighs 28 lbs at 3 months of age. The rest of the day followed us around as we built a fire in the front yard, played in the back yard with Gracie, got brushed, and learned that he could eat a pig ear. I also mowed the backyard to expose him to the mower sound.

Bigzio: Still unsure about the bash-we are heading for a vacation to California soon, back for a week then off to Puerto Rico. We will be getting back the weekend before the bash if I have the dates right and have some catch up to do. However, if BBP and her bubby are going, then Im thinking Chickenship will want to go (and see if he can repeat his hole-in-one from last year!)

If they're used to each other they get all along just fine. Usually. There is always that odd one out sometimes tho.
Duck eggs are very good for eating, but even better for baking! They have a slightly stronger egg taste to them. But yumm!

Wow, that's quite the travels you're doing Angiebubs! Hope the hopping back and forth from hot to cold won't mess you up too much!

Looks like a nice doghouse in progress for Theo,cs! He is probably in heaven for all the new things and all that attention just on him! Lol.

Finally stopped raining. Only got up to 46 here today. Was supposed to be in the 50's. Where did those extra few degrees go?! Now I'm really wondering about the predicted 68 for tomorrow. Hmmm... Just gonna have to wait.

Last duckling is walking and running fine now, just a bit more tired yet than his older siblings. Just so cute when they know your voice and come running!

We have a fire going burning the new neighbors' tree & bush trimmings, then there is the one in the ravine (the guy across the ravine piles all of his leaves into the ravine and sets them ablaze not a very wise choice-I know) and one across the road. I think the ravine fire has scared the dogs. Theo came up on the porch and Gracie wanted out to see what was wrong.

Theo's dog house is being made out of an old bunk bed set, roofing from our old greenhouse, leftover pieces from building the coop, and a few pieces of new plywood. It ends up being a great way to get rid of the lumber taking up space in the garage and not much cutting to do either! We will finish it up tomorrow.

Still no chicks! I had to lock down the nest box though. I had 4 hens trying to get hatch the 11 eggs. I locked the original 2 in with the eggs and the 2 newcomers were locked out!

Good to see FT back. I look forward to your update.

Ok, I've got to ice the cranberry muffins......

Getting the gf banana cream pie done tonight (made with Pekin duck eggs) and making gf brownies tomorrow.

Did Easter with my side of the family tonight, tomorrow is the in-laws. Phone interview on Monday.

Nothing else to report here. Told DH I put in for the dog. Pretty sure we will not get her but at least I can say I tried.

Awesome day today! Got a lot done. Scooped the coop again. And finally went through the rest of the kids clothes. That is such a chore.
It was so nice out
I bought Brownie a whip. I had him lunging very well the other day usi g a landing net lol But he is not respondi g to the whip. He mostly just stands there. I do not allow him to eat while we train. I just am unsure how to get him into the swing of it. Any advise/pointers are welcome! We brushed him again this evening. He is getting very white! We decided to call him Frosted Brownie I will try to remember to get pics of him.

Finally got the extra roos in their own pen! I felt kinda bad for them tonight desperately trying to get into the main coop at roost time. They'll get over it if they don't break their necks first.

Cuties, my gelding, Ruger, did not respond to a whip either. Except the cracking of a bull whip. One of the trainers passed it back and forth over his head and cracked it on the ground around him.
But one day I was doing something in the pasture and brought the whip thinking I could use it to keep him out of my space. No. He grabbed it and started chewing on it. The minute my mare saw that thing she ran. He was like, "oh, you brought me a toy".
