Hello everyone. Hope all had a great Easter. The weather was great here. We have 6 white leghorns (about 3 weeks old) and 3 pekin ducks (about 1.5 weeks old). We are thinking about getting a rooster to go along with the chicks we currently have. So I have some questions about this:
1. Does the rooster have to be a leghorn? Or can it be any kind of rooster? How would it affect the outcome from the hatched eggs?
2. Would it better to get the rooster now? Or wait until the chicks are bigger and buy a full size rooster?
3. Will the rooster be accepted and not attacked by the chicks?
That's all I can really think of right now. Any other info you could give us would be great. Thanks!

1a. no, the rooster can be any breed..
2a. you do not have to get a rooster anytime soon.. you have several months before you will be collecting eggs.
3a. more than likely a rooster will be accepted into a flock of hens..

X2 what UnkaDan said.. you might have a rooster in the mix already ..

Once the hens start laying, then is when I would get a full grown rooster..
Roosters are easy to come by ,
just mention it here and you will have plenty of offers..

Yes, a trained eye can tell the roosters from the hens at an early age.. II meant the chickens age, not the person

Oh my gosh gross yuck puke! I cracked an egg into the pan this morning and not only was the yolk the liquified from setting but there was a tiny bird started!!!

**** KIDS!!! Collect the eggs sooner!

Beautiful day, got my 3 mi walk in, raked out the front flower beds, and took all the Christmas lights off the shrubs.

Now I am back inside working on the daily job search, and yes I did apply for the OSHA job. Cleaning out the front beds has revealed the humongous amount of work needed to get them back into shape..... I think I am just going to go out there and dig everything up and replant it all minus the grass and mulch the snot out of it so the grass does not return. A good weekend job with kid helpers.

Registered for the Chocoholic Frolic, exercise and chocolate too! All I need now is a wine and cheese run.....
