Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good evening, I have several of those combo therm/hum% units.. some from Walmart, some from F&F,, those I use everyday,, one in each bator.. but I like the probe thermometer for setting up and checking.. the reading is instant, while those other ones take a long time to cool off once the temp is too high.. instead of taking hours to set up a bator, I can set one up in 15 minutes with the probe.

If your hen is that clucky, I would give her the turkey eggs.. an average sized full sized chicken should be able to handle about a half dozen turkey eggs..

I have 10 chicks in the brooder compartment in the hatcher,, only 86 more to go..

I set 39 more guinea eggs, and tomorrow I will set another 48 of my own chicken's eggs..

I have all of the modifications done on the egg trays.. I have enough stackers for both bators..

how many people on here have a sportsman ? do you want to learn how to increase your capacity to 550 eggs ? very simple to do.. and not very expensive, either .. overall cost for the trays would be about $60.oo.. (12 egg trays) .. you would only have to modify half of them,, I can modify one in less than 5 minutes with a table saw..

better salvage all the knowledge you can from me, I ain't going to live forever....

Hi All!

erin.... glad you like the eggs. Wish I was breathing and walking a bit better so we could have talked a bit more. Sorry for the mess, but yea, we live here. LOL With luck by the time you bring the incubator back my helper will be able to get the coop cleaned and arranged better. Yea, listen to Jim for incubating.... he does a gazillion a year!

Well, looks like the turkey lost her egg down the crack between the cage she was sitting on and the wall. I tried to cover it with a board, but she moved it.

She didn't break brood yet though.

Guess that's it.... night all!

Morning all.

I heard there will be a bird/rabbit swap in Shawano on Sat the 17th. Can anyone tell me what time it starts? Anyone here going?

Been putting off getting my flock tested. Finally did it this weekend...first time. It was easy! Don't know why I didn't do it earlier.

Very late start for me this spring....just fired up the incubators a week or so ago. Hopefully I'll have chicks by Memorial weekend and then every week or so after that till 4th of July. Trying the 'dry' method this year and keeping my fingers crossed on a bunch of shipped eggs. I know I shouldn't get excited about them because I always have such a low hatch rate but I just can't help myself.

good morning, if this hatch is going to stretch out for 3 days, I am going to have to set up a chick TV ..there are a couple more chicks in the hatching tray,, and the ones in the brooder area are getting restless and crawling out and crawling around under the shelf on the floor.. I guess I will have to modify that shelf, next.. it never ends..

hmmm,, I just had an idea how to modify all the hatching trays, so maybe I won't need covers over them.. I guess I just found my project for the day..

huntress,,I just want to go on record against the dry method..
dry incubating is a mis understood label..

If you have enough humidity in your surrounding air, then you might be able to pull it off..
You still have to have humidity in the incubator.. either from the surrounding air, or by adding water.

make sure your hygrometer is reading correctly..

I do not want to hear anything about shrink wrapped chicks 3 weeks from now.. you will get no sympathy from me..

my humidity in the hatcher is 56% roght now,, and I am enjoying watching the chicks hatch with no problems rather than sitting at the edge of my chair and wondering if they are going to get stuck..

Nice warm evening everybody! After finally getting some much needed sunshine and warm weather yesterday, where I also got my shoulders burnt just by sitting out with the ducklings, I got to relax a bit and rest my achy shoulders from even more sun, despite it still being warm today. It was a bit too muggy for me today, but right now, it is PERFECT! Can it just stay JUST like that?!?! Anyways, we went to the (really small) Ladysmith swap yesterday. Not much going on, we bummed around for a good 1.5 hours before being too chilled and bored with only 5 vendors being there, one being the coffee/food guys. Lol. Hey, at least there was more than there was last year! Was hoping to see you there, Stacie, but we must have missed each other or you did not make it there. Would have been nice to meet you in person! We didn't plan to really get anything big, as we knew that there is mostly chickens there, but we ended up getting 2 nice bird cages (one we use for our one day old baby pheasants right now) and one roo and chicken that someone really must have wanted to just get rid off. Both are 1 yr old and together they were only $10! But the seller had no clue what breeds. And I was wondering if all you experienced bird breeders/raisers/hatchers could take a look and give me a guess on them? Thanks in advance! ~~SammiesurroundedbybirdsinNWWI~~
I was at the swap until nearly 11am. I sold all but 3 chicks. Those birds were bred from a person I know. The rooster is a cross from a black tailed Japanese bantam and the hen is same roo crossed with a Leghorn.

Cool and thanks! We were segueing over the white one, if it is a too or not since we didn't find any eggs yet.
So where in the hall were you at the swap?
