Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

CS, same and same. Rather depressing. No news to report on either front.

Today was eventful. My youngest DD sent me a txt at 12:30. There is no money in our lunch account so they will not let us eat. The school policy is not to feed the kids if they have a balance that is below -$10. Now, they allowed my MS child to eat but none of my HS students. I know darn well that the youngest did not eat $10 worth of food at lunch, which means they had a neg balance yesterday. I am supposed to be notified when the account is negative so I can correct the issue. I have not gotten an email yet from the school about their lunch account.

I ended up going to the school and picking up my HS kids and taking them to Subway for lunch since they were no longer serving lunch at school. What is really silly is that my kids were dishing up food and the lunch workers informed them they needed to put down their trays and leave the line. So my kids did and whatever food was on their trays was tossed in the trash.

Now I would understand some of this if I never put money in their account, but I always correct the issue as soon as I am aware of it. I do not understand when we have one policy that makes certain the low income kids never face ridicule for not eating lunch, and then another that makes sure the kids who can pay for lunch are singled out when their account is empty????

I have sent off emails to the school board and the District Admin to correct this problem. This was not the first time this year that my kids would have had to go without lunch, or food of any kind. Not even a piece of bread with PB on it.

Good thing the School Board meeting is tomorrow night.......................

Tonight was the last band concert for our oldest DD. All the bands performed very well, I am quite proud of our little musicians!

Hi All!

Congrats on the hatches!

bl4.... that is pathetic! What a waste of food! If the account is empty there should be some way for them (and the parents) to be informed before the get a lunch on the tray! If they helped dish out they should get free lunch. As a last resort a pbj. NO KID SHOULD GO HUNGRY!

Nothing new here.... night all!

good morning,,

Mel, tell your kids to not take it too hard,, but how humiliating that must have been,,
At our school, if the kids are kitchen workers etc, they get food free,,

what kind of mental giant made them put down their trays and then throws the food away,,
I am betting it was a paid employee,, I should be in charge,, that person would be looking for
a new job TODAY..
those kids need an apology,, at LEAST !!!!

Stacy
OK, I thought you said Amish.. where are you going to get cornishX eggs,,??
from what I ever saw, eggs from a hatchery cost as much , or more , than the chicks do..
I am quite sure you do not have the breeders to make that cross..

the eggs that are due today are starting to hatch..

I came up with another design for a hatching tray,, going to make one today if I can find the ambition.. In your mind , think "tray". long and shallow ..

cuppa is gone, CRS has settled in, I know there was something else from a previous page, but if I to there, I will lose all this gibberish ..

ETA, now I remember,,
back in my building incubator days, I cam up with a design for a turning tray .. I never made any drawings, nor did I build one.
but it would turn (roll) multiple eggs at a time by pushing a dowel by hand ,..

I don't have a clue Jim. I haven't even researched them yet to see what kind of possibilities I can try. The only one I know that has Cornish x are the ladies from Edgewood but just heard from the Mennonite couple that they weren't very good on growth and weight. I seen some a friend had once and they grossed me out as the ones they ordered didn't hardly grow feathers.

BigFam, congrats on the chocolate chips! Or should we call them Hershey's squirts.....

I have gotten an email this morning from the school District Admin. he is meeting with lunch personnel this morning to investigate my concerns and he will get back to me later today with his findings.

I am glad I emailed the school board, one member got back to me last night and told me she had the same issues and shared my concerns. Maybe something will be done about it. I have a feeling that they are going to say that I should keep an eye on the lunch balance myself by logging in to the school system..... yeah, like I am going to remember that!

Jim, not too humiliating. Mom showed up and took them all out of school to go have lunch at Subway. Much better than the cr@p they serve at the school.

Turkey eggs are looking good. A few clears and I am shocked that the eggs collected before Easter are developing.

Time to motivate.

Quote: just FYI,, those ladies DO NOT have cornishxrock.. I do not know the breeding procedure and all the F1 etc, but just taking a cornish and crossing it with a Rock is not going to fill the bill,,
and besides, do they really have that large of a flock to pull it off ? I don't think so Lucy ..

and while I am at it, breeding sex link (red stars, black stars, golden comets etc) chickens with sex link roosters will not give you sex linked chicks..

Just like planting an apple seed will not give you that kind of apple..

and while I am still at it,

Mel, the worker who made your kids dump their food was probably afraid that they wouldn't have enough left overs to take home to their family.. maybe they should clamp down on that practice.

Morning to All....congrats on the hatches....sounds like everyone is having good results!

That's sad about tossing out food...not at my house for sure!

Bagged my Turkey yesterday morning on the last day of the 4th season....nice bird with 11" beard and 1 1/4 spurs...tipped the scale at 22 lbs....I was pleased. I'll share a pic when jennie stops by....

Won't be long before the grass will need to be cut....that sucks for sure. Better than snow I guess.

The gardens are to wet to work up yep...hopefully next week.

Stacy, here's an idea

since you seem to have a few Amish/Menonite groups asking you to hatch, perhaps you should suggest that one of them creates the C/X cross they want and you will simply do their hatching for them,,,,very cheap for the farm that actually does this, then make a $ agreement on any other chicks you hatch and sell to others,,,,

I have talked to a couple of hatcheries that do buy eggs from the Amish/Menonites so they should have the knowledge base and access to the correct stock to get started

good luck

yup Mel, I have seen a few of these type vids this year from all across the country. It sure isn't right. So many schools now have outside contractors doing the lunch programs, with today's commonly cut to the bare bones budgets it's a double whammy.

Good for you on informing the board members, there needs to be a system that notifies parents when the account runs low, most folks have enough on their plate today (no pun intended) without keeping a running account of the kids lunch money.
