Rberry, would have been nice to meet at the bash. I am showing hubby that cool jungle gym when I go home!
I finally figured out why our Brahmas don't lay well. We have an egg eater! I totally cought them! I will have quite the project this weekend figuring out who it is. Hopefully it is just one. Time will tell if the others picked up this nasty habbit. They have all the goods to eat. And also get put a few times a week into the big fenced grassy area.

Glad you like the jungle gym. About your "egg eaters", when you say you caught them in the act, were they breaking it open then eating? I only ask because we thought we had one. We would find dried yolk in the box or on other eggs (only happens once in a great while). We came to the conclusion that they weren't breaking it to eat just being oportunists. With six nesting boxes available for 13 hens . . . everyone wants the box the other has. One day we found two hens in a box and a third trying to push her way in. It just so happened while we watched, the third went to peck her way in and got an egg instead. Once they finished their business, Rod tossed the broken egg remains out onto the hillside . . . along came the clean up crew. I was afraid that would cause my clean up crew to become egg eaters, but that didn't happen.

It all beagan on a day when they were out in the bog pen. None of the girls l ok ke the outdoor nesting box. And normally choose to hold theor egg until bed time. I was feeling pretty lucky. Because I just got to watch her lay an egg. I habe been able to witness this twice now :)
And suddenly the dogs were all barky. I walked the ten feet to the barn door to see it was just hubby ;)
Ce back to collect the egg. And there the NAUGHTY bords were! They rolled it over to the food dish. And were scrambling away at it! I quickly took it. And there was damage. But I coild stoll see it was a normal healthy egg!
The culperate will be removed. And I am unsure what I will do with him/her.

I am sorryy typing is so bad! My smart phone is having many issues. And I have a new one on the way!
No worries on the typing - smart phones are a bugger to type on even when their new.

Ahh yes that does sound like a naughty bird. Since it rolled the egg to the food dish, it must be concerned with proper presentation of the scrambled eggs . . . check out the nearest culinary arts school. It will either be their first cooking chicken (like Remy in Disney's Ratatouille) or next weeks lesson

Hi All, I tried the "bookmark" method to keep up . . . didn't work. So I skimmed through and I'm sure I've missed some good stuff . . . so much going on with everyone.

Bl4 - Since I skimmed through . . . how's the job hunt going?

how goes it? We have our cabin reserved for the week of Sept 13th - looking forward to a cuppa or two!

New puppies and mega hatching in Jim's neck of the woods - cute little pup Jim.

Welcome to all the newbies - great group here.

Dave - so sorry to hear about your hens. Did the new chicks arrive? We picked up a dozen Black Australorps from Abendroth's on May 5th. They and the four RIR's Kristip hatched for us are doing great. Rod just built them a new jungle gym for the brooder and it turned out to be a big hit!
Now he is retro fitting the big coop for them. They and the big girls will be able to see each other, just not touch. My hope is this will make integration easier when the time comes.

I was really looking forward to hooking up with a bunch of you at the bash Saturday, but the roofing of our house is taking precedence.

Rod's help can only work weekends and he still has two sky lights to get in before the company that will be laying the shingles comes in June..
You know I'm pretty sure retirement isn't supposed to be this hectic

Bigzio I too hope for the bash to go on for years to come. I really want to be there, I love a good camp fire - and the bash fires sound most entertaining

You can always leave the hubby behind and come hang out for a while. Just cook some food ahead of time!

You and I need to talk at the bash. I need some pointers on how to get my DH to make things for me!!!!

Does anyone want me to bring my last American Sable doe to the bash? I know I promised to bring a bunch of rabbits as raffle prizes, but I found homes for all of them. Its a very disappointing situation, I know. There's just the one left from those ones I rescued last winter.

Thanks all! It's good to be back in touch!

BL4 - Ive got the store open on Saturday or I would be there all weekend. This year I'm taking Sunday and Monday off instead of going 7 days a week for the entire summer. (I'm getting too old for a summer long, 7 day a week gig!)

Fish Fry Friday To Everyone.... RBerry that play station is way to cute....you could sell those for profit on the side....a lot of folks would like one I'm sure!

Welcome Home Irish...try to make the bash sat if you can....Sunday Morning is breakfast and then cleanup of the lodge and grounds...we kinda like to wind down by noon or so, and have folks on their way home...

Good to hear that the box of chicks arrived safe David....this was perfect weather for shipping chicks.

Cut puppy Jim...sounds like the bators are earning their keep....

Maybe need some sun glasses for your broody hen Cind...then the eggs would all look dark...

Went to Shawano for shopping this morning....kmart is closing and has 25% to 75% off stuff in the store...great deals on clothing for sure....

Cut some more grass today...looks nice for a couple days anyway....

Don't forget your skeet dope if you are making the bash...mornings and evenings they are out and about.

good quiet (here) evening,,

Pang has an additional 12 chicks to add to her 59 she picked up yesterday,, I expected her tonight, but she didn't show.. maybe her husband forgot to tell her I called..
this makes just a few over 100 chicks I hatched for Pang..

MY eggs are hatching,,

first ones of mine this year..
these are the cross breed eggs, might be some pure breeds too.. who knows with 7 roosters doing their thing .?? the first chick is not a BO for sure,, looks like a Del rooster..

the eggs I rescued from Jerry's BO's were due yesterday.. nada ..
He called me , I was not here,, Annie talked to him,, his hens hatched a few chicks, but somehow a couple of them got killed .. there weren't very many from his two hens to start with.
He wants me to hatch some of mine for him..

the new puppy is a cry baby.. I suppose it is quite a change after being with her litter mates, Mom and the small herd of sheep and goats. now she has just me.. what a let down, eh?

I sat outside at sundown ,, sure was nice to be able to do that.. No skeeters here yet.. the puppy slept on my lap for about a half hour..

Gus was a snot a couple of times.. he would suddenly turn on the puppy for no reason, just showing his dominance, I suppose,, but then I got to show mine to him, so I think the heirarchy is well established for the time being.. I won't let the two of them be alone without me being present ..

Annie is at work,, pulling one of her loooong shifts,, 5 PM on Friday until 9 AM on Sunday.. this will happen 4 more times before fall..

GS Kalib got his first paycheck from his new job.. made me take him straight to the bank.. said that he was not going to squander his money like he did with his last job.. His new GF is a positive force for him.. we really like her.. a very ambitious girl.. maybe it is rubbing off on him.
