Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

The bee concern is that it is such a new coop, that if they are too many drones being produced they will over power the workers and the ratios are completely off. MY Guy looked at the pics and said he thnks it is ok...give it another couple weeks and check them again. And the dummies book is a good one. I have that one and another with a yellow cover that I can't remember the name...hmm.

Here is another idea for the mini fall bash...could we see if Susan at cluck the chicken store down here near Madison would help sponsor one. I know that twain and heather offered to give some nutrrna type prizes etc if they came to one... Just a thought. If it is for an afternoon, there is a little park across from cluck. Just a thought.

Wanting on a broody in hopes some marans eggs under her are fertile...due in a week. Fingers crossed... This is from my continuous broody...

Planted my garden..of course we had that hard rain on Monday...hoping it is still where I put everything.

There was something else I was going to say, but totally forgot...sigh...one of those days. Have a good one everyone!

This could be the most important thing that you see me post! Its an epidemic this year, and these things are as lethal as a venomous snake in the wrong senerio! Please not only read it, but share it! Make sure we get the word out about these ticks and the diseases they carry!

It's summer! Time for camping, hiking and getting outside to play. Don't let those pesky annoying ticks stop you. Here's how with a simple homemade solution!

Repellent for your pets:

For pets, add 1 cup of water to a spray bottle, followed by 2 cups of distilled white vinegar. Ticks hate the smell and taste of vinegar, and will be easily be repelled by this ingredient alone. Then, add two spoonfuls of vegetable or almond oil, which both contain sulfur (another natural tick repellent).

To make a repellent that will also deter fleas, mix in a few spoonfuls of lemon juice, citrus oil, or peppermint oil, any of which will repel ticks and fleas while also creating a nicely scented repellent. Spray onto the pet's dry coat, staying away from sensitive areas including eyes, nose, mouth, and genitals. When outdoors for an extended period, spray this solution on two to three times per day.

For you and your family:

In a spray bottle, mix 2 cups of distilled white vinegar and 1 cup of water. To make a scented solution so you do not smell like bitter vinegar all day, add 20 drops of your favorite essential oil.

Eucalyptus oil is a calm, soothing scent that also works as a tick repellent, while peppermint and citrus oils give off a strong crisp scent that also repel ticks.

After mixing the solution, spray onto clothing, skin, and hair before going outdoors. Reapply every four hours to keep ticks at bay, and examine your skin and hair when back inside to make sure no ticks are on the body.

If you have ever shared anything, please click share on this! WE must get the word spread about the dangers of Ticks and how to avoid them!

I forgot to mention this at the bash. I was at the vet last week & one of the techs was saying that a previous vet that she worked with highly recommended washing dogs with Woolite laundry soap to instantly kill fleas & ticks on them. Not just for undies anymore, I guess.

hi everybody,,

things have quieted down for awhile here..
tally to this point.. in the past two days, we hatched 35 BO, 54 guineas, and 37 of Pangs chicks..
and there is a large bug crawling up my puter screen,, Oh, it stopped,, just a moth of some kind..

Annie made the first rhubarb pie of the season.. awesome good ..

I bought more garden seeds, still don't have any in the ground yet, though..

I will go drag up the other garden in a little while.. that one is where the squash and millet will be going..

Speaking of bees, BBP: When are the bees coming?

Does anyone here use kelp as a supplement with their flock?

Oooooooooh, I forgot to tell you, they've been leased out for something. I can't remember what. So not sure we're getting any at all this year. When I mix my own chicken feed next year it will contain kelp meal. I know a few people that feed it. Especially in the winter when they're not out free ranging.

Awww that sux! Im looking at buying a 50 lb bag for supplementing with the flock as well as using in the garden/run. I was reading how it helps prevent/build up natural immunity towards Cocci.

Im so frustrated with my coop setup right now. I went and bought a bunch of wire rabbit cares at FF (On sale for $19/$29) and only managed to get one put together tonight. Pinched my hand, half the j clips went on only one side, etc. Then went to clear a spot in the shavings in the coop and discovered its damp underneath the shavings! I would so like to just buy/build a new coop; trying to patch up and use and old cement barn is dumb!

Evening all... big day tomorrow at Camp...gonna be setting the poles for the new gate at the entrance....it will be nice when finished.

I have the leg back on the sears bator...I'll be taking it over to the neighbor to get it wired....then I'll order some new wafers....it's on my bucket list to see it hatch again...soon.

Neighbor called with 20lbs of asparagus ...we froze 10 one lb bags and canned 7 qts with the dilled and a spice or two for eating or in cocktails.

My middle garden was turned into a nursery for small trees....the spring salad mix was allowed to go to seed there last year, and we are blessed with a wonderful leaf lettuce of a variety that we cut washed, spun and bagged....two full plastic grocery bags on the first cutting....sweet and free of bugs.

Brent, Cutler's is the name of the place where I found wafers..
I think Stromberg's has then too..

there is a double wafer.. If you have room for two wafers stacked together, you might want to try that in the future if the single wafer does not hold a steady enough temperature..

but I think the new wafer will work just fine..

you can run warm water over your old wafer and see if it responds to heat.. heat makes it swell up, and it flattens out again as it cools off..

do you think the new gate will keep undesirables out ?

you sure must live right.. free asparagus..

we had a couple of meals from ours, but my patch was decimated by the black walnut trees..
