Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning all.

Been cloudy with some sun here but nice without all the skeeters yesterday. Monday we had a small storm go through. Maybe a 15 minute rain?!

Had 2 more Rouen ducklings hatch to keep our Queenie (crested cross) company, and another Pekin in the works. The 3 week olds are getting to the stage of "gobble up all the food you can get" and grow big and some of the first big bird feathers are showing.
Luckily I'm done with pheasants for this year. No more ear piercing screams...

Fernie, you should really teach your daughter to keep those kinda games for when she is over 20 yrs old! And hope you got more knobs and such around for the next few years to come! Lol.

Didn't do anything with the garden this year. Too much water (and too close to water level) and no money to do anything. It's really gonna be one hell of a year financially. And we haven't even got started to save money for wood for next winter.

Other duckies are growing, chickens are happy scratching on the piles of old straw from the ducks pens and the pheasants growing. Now wanna start the process of sorting through all the ducklings and figure out which drakes to keep. The rest will get sold on the next few swaps. As do some of our juvie red Goldens. Still gonna be hanging in there really tight...

Gonna clean up the huge mess the brat created (with his dad's help of course) and trying to find some of the house again. Then maybe making beer can chicken later? Not sure yet... Dang decisions! Later!

good day,

I am having such a time with this d@mn computer.. I wrote a post last night, hit submit, waited a long time and then it disappeared into cyperspace.. so I shut it down and went and watched TV for the rest of the evening..

we had a small drip drip water leak that I have been putting off fixing for a couple of weeks.. Now Annie finds another leak, only this one is shooting a minuscule stream.. I don't know how long that has been going on, but my incubator/computer room is right next to the laundry room.. My carpet has a wet spot that I thought was just from me slopping water when I filled the reservoirs in the bators.. no such luck.. it is seeping under the wall from in there..

I called a plumber friend and she is coming to look it over.. I am going to replace all of the copper ..going with PEC .. all of the plumbing is in that one room so it will be more fittings than tubing ..

going to rough in a laundry hook up in the upstairs little room which is back to back with the bathroom.. If I have to tear the wall apart, so be it.. I am good at drywalling ..

and now I am going to attempt to send this post ,, if it doesn't go, you won't be reading this, will you ?

me again,, the last post went without a hitch..

I didn't have any digging or chewing problems with Gus.. he did kill a few chickens and guineas, but a good scolding and throwing a frozen dead chicken at him several times one day cured him of the killing habit ..

I prolly have an advantage over youse guys because I am here most of the time.. Gus bonded to me and just wants to please.. (most of the time)

I never allowed him to mouth me..
never taught him to shake hands.. his feet belong on the ground, not on me..
never provided him with a chew toy,
and never rewarded him for obeying me with any treats.. I expect him to obey me because I want him to..

I give him treats when I feel like giving him some.. not because he thinks he should be getting some. I don't want him begging for treats of food..

He will sit and watch me eat.. sometimes I will give him a bite of something, other times I tell him to go lie down..

with any dog, you have to make up your mind what YOU want and then be consistent .. If you keep changing the game, the dog will never learn .. and everybody in the household has to play the same game ..

Someone needs to teach me how to train the hubs not to promote bad habits! My puppy is going to be spoiled beyond belief if he keeps at it!

I think I am accepting no more kiddos. Blake is almost 5. :(

Pfffffffttt. There are 20 years between me (the oldest) and my youngest sibling. It aint too late til menopause hits.

Fernie, hilarious! I see stories like that in my future.

Strawberry picking season is here - $60 worth today. Oiy.

Quote: Revenge came this morning.

Daughter went to get a bath. The boys went into the bathroom and stole her towel and clothes. She may be 11, but has no sense of modesty and ran out of the bath after them. The dog went crazy chasing after her. If you are wet he has to lick you dry. She was not amused. She ran for my room and hid until I got her another towel.

A day here can be frustrating and amusing at the same time.

we have a strawberry patch just 1/4 mile from our house.. Annie just informed me that she was driving up there to see if the open sign is up..
I can almost taste the shortcake already.. and I don't care if I did just lose over 5 pounds..
Kalib bought some real nice looking ears of corn from Walmart.. to my surprise, it was very good, too.. tender and sweet.. 3 cobs for $1.oo...

nephew Dan is coming tomorrow to shovel sh!t out of the chicken coop..

a lady is supposed to come and buy some chicks tomorrow.. I already know she is going to want to dicker.. she might get 11 or 12 for the price of 10, but that's it .. and she won't be allowed to take more than 15 .. I am putting 3 dozen eggs into the bator tonight,, she can wait for those to hatch if she wants more..

Fernie, methinks you should wear a camera around your neck at all times..

I am thinking I should run the tiller down the rows yet tonight.. the weeds are not so bad, but we are supposed to get rain each day until at least Monday.. then it will be too wet for at least another day, and the weeds will keep growing, won't they ?

Annie has a quite a few blue 2 quart canning jars.. I am thinking of putting them on Craig's List.
she says she has a couple real old ones.. IDK anything about them,,
will do a little research before I do anything.. they have been here almost 50 years, so there doesn't seem to be a big rush about it.. and who knows how long her grandmother had them before that ?

I think I will go out now and donate some blood to the local skeeters..

bbl,,,,,,,jiminwisc........

Berry Day here too....although I kep it down to $27.....the berries and peas are perfect with a few lbs of each consumed by me as I pick. We like to rinse the berries and pop their tops and freeze whole on baking sheets...tomorrow we will bag them for keeping. I know a crab salad with the peas is in the near future!

Still a ton of weeding to do...hope things can dry out...we are way to wet for tilling yet.

Venzun back straps with shrimp on the grill tonight. The shrimp is always so good on the grill.
