Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Drizzly rainy and humid day so far. Had been raining here too early this morning and muddled up pretty much all of the ranging areas for the duckies, but they LOVE it! One Cascade even stomps around one puddle, then digs in the mud for whatever is hiding. Must have been watching the chickens scratch too often!

Need to get outside and clean the water dishes and condos again. So not in the mood to do it but gotta be done... Oh the things you do for your critters!

Also STILL need to find SOMEONE who can do some pullorum tests on our birdies. Would really like to sell some of those birds SOON! They eat us out of house and money! Grrr... so frustrated that they can't keep updated lists out with AVAILABLE people. What is so hard about updating the list once a year?!? Gee...

Better get my behind moving so I can somewhat relax. And I just heard that the brat will be back (too soon!!!) for 4th July. Wonderful...

His dog still has not recovered from him and is whining to no end... unless I let him loose in the yard, jumps a bit in the murky waters, then sits down on the futon in the new gazebo and guard a pair for dirty socks that the brat left behind. Cause NO! I will NOT pick up after a 25 yr old... ain't gonna happen... It's enough that I have to find some clean pots/pans and work my way through the kitchen mess whenever he is here!

Gonna go into the skeeter cloud and clean... ouch... argh... zap...grrr....

WE I think one of the big reasons the testers aren't actively testing is that the testing solution is close to $100 and expires in 1 year. You would have to test 100 birds a year to break even if you charged $1 each bird. I've heard people don't want to pay that. Then there is the gas prices and your time to consider. I was a tester. I bought the solution and never tested a single bird. Wasted $100. My birds don't leave and I don't sell birds. Just my opinion but money is tight and with feed prices high people are cutting back. That being one area.

Hi all, looking for one or two pullets, somewhere in the 8-14 week old range. Just getting started but lost one of our four birds earlier this week. Had an experienced chicken friend come over and look at the setup, remaining flock. All looks good, but daughter was just beside herself when she found Soup dead, and she still has moments.

We're southeast of madison about 20 minutes. Will be in the sheboygan area over the 4th weekend, and covering points in between on the return trip, likely saturday. Have no problem making an hour+ road trip for the right bird. Open to just about any cold tolerant, decent egg producer. Thanks.

Came home to peeping everywhere! Im in heaven! So far there are 3 out, but lots of chirping in eggs going on. Found one chick with new broody hen-she pulled the remaining eggs under here and moved away from the chick. It was cold, I moved it under one of my proven mommas ad its now up and lively.
I had two die though while hatching out. Its beak was free and clear and the shell was almost off the top-what would cause this? It sure wast a humidity issue!!!

Awesome news on the hatching, Ang.

I am sorry but I have no answers for the 2 that died. Maybe Jim or one of our other hatching gurus?

Good luck with the rest of your hatch.

Ang-good luck with the rest of the hatch

bbp- good to see those 2 happy and healthy.

I finally got 3 of the 4 chicks up on the roost with the older ladies. I'm hoping that this will reduce the tension in the house (so to speak). These chicks are so terrified of the older ones that, until now, I haven't been able to get them to stay on the roost.

Jim-I might have missed it, but did you respond to whether Dora has actually been bred? I know that you said Annie said she had been, but when might you know? I have no idea about this process, so sorry for the questions.

I've still got one broody, even though she keeps sitting, I keep taking my eggs. I don't think she'll give up anytime soon.

So...we were all sick of winter, and I hate to complain...................but, is anyone else getting sick of the rain? The plants are growing, but aren't producing without the heat and sun! What an odd "wint-spri-summer'. Yes it is now a word...of sorts.

We are getting an estimate for fencing for the remaining (unfenced) parts of the yard. I'm sure it'll be well beyond our realm of possibility, but it's free to quote.

That's about it here. DH is doing well after getting his wisdom teeth removed yesterday. Although, he is not following the doctor's suggestions and is drinking Mt. Dew too early.

Hi guys!
Ang, congrats!
We ourselves have a few early peepers in the bator :) and a few noises under the broodies too! And one of the turkeys has peepers too! I love this :)
Cs, hope hubs doesn't get any of those dry sockets! Then he will really complain ;)
Robert, sorry to hear about your pullet :( Terri O is near you. And I think also hensn roos. Maybe they could hook you up.
We have our niece for a sleep over tonight. Brought the kiddos to see the new transformers. They loved it..it was a 3 hour movie!
Till tomorrow.

Congrats Angie and nice pic BBP.

CS, did I mention yet that the US got their rears handed to them?!?!?

And we even gave them a pretty long time to try too! lol

Yeah, after the humid hot dry spell of a couple of days (

) the rain came back with a vengeance late this afternoon. Set the entire backyard and the runs under water. The ducks loved it though! Could barely keep all the black and brown duckies apart later today after the storm! Just hope that everybody is okay after it...

The storm obviously canceled my plans on finishing the new duck house. So I guess unless it is pouring again tomorrow, I will try for then. Put the hinges and roof on and I can call this one done also! Then trying to put it in place and move one crowd in there (probably our oldest Saxony and Winnie the Pekin). Will empty one condo up for another group.

Also hoping that the lady from one of the swaps will meet up with me to take her already feathering in 3 Pekins and the little one that just hatched. She said that we'll do an even exchange for 2 Emden goslings. Does that sound like a fair exchange?

SO is just having our smallest Lady Amherst chick running all over him and the couch. He has been screaming pretty much all afternoon. That's just how they are, always complaining. But their high pitched screams are hurting my ears...
His brother, who lives on the same property and has some of the older pheasant chicks, told me this morning that they woke him up last night, flying back and forth over his head for hours til he was awake. I could not do that, it would drive me from one nightmare to another!

Okay, enough for today. Have a good night everybody, and stay dry (and uneaten by the skeeters!).
