Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Delish I have been following the Fermented Feed forum on here and many people say that its not required to keep the FF covered in water? Most of them feed it the consistency of oatmeal. Have you read anything that shows that this can cause problems? Or is this just with grains? It sure makes it easier to feed to them but want to make sure there are no ill effects from doing it this way. I do go through my 5 gals about every 5 days though so probably not long enough for anything serious to grow?

I feed it at the consistency of oatmeal, but that is what it is like AFTER I take it out from the container that I have it fermenting in. While in that container, the FF is ALWAYS covered. It molds or turns into slime mold if you do not have it covered.
Angiebubs, we are so alike. I even take it to the next level. Hubby's carcasses are not even allowed here! I admit, I put an ad out. And sell the extra roos. Sometimes I luck out. And they go for pets. Other times, I know what happens to them. I try to do the out of sight out of mind thing.
kildare, when I sell the chicks, I know most of the males will be eaten. I always try to not think about it lol
I gotta ewnup in town. And was never really around the farm type setting. Our meat comes from stores. And I had a lot of pets. That is just how I veiw animals.
Angisbubs, if ypu start a batcheral pad, I dont think those roos willnbe happy. They will have a couple of dominant ones in there. And the submissive ones will just be picked on. Give it a try. But in that situation, I do think it is better to let others take the roos you will not be using...
Cuties and Angiebubs- note to the both of you. I'll take all of your roosters or hens that you want to get rid of. Also, when it comes down to hunting season, I'll take all of the deer too!!!!

Rabbits and chickens are enjoying garden pickings today.

Theo is doing great with the chickens lately.

Also, once the air conditioning was repaired, we covered the wiring with copper, so he can't bite through anymore. He is still getting into the garden however! We'll see how long it takes for him to give that up as he gets the zucchini mallet when he hops into the garden! Otherwise, he is doing great with perimeter training, but I still don't trust him to be off the lead. I did get a long lead and let him drag it around. That way I can step on it if needed to keep him in the yard. Right now, he is really enjoying fresh berries as treats!

good afternoon,
just a note before I go fix something for supper..
The best word you can teach a dog is NO.. it covers anything that they shouldn't do..
For instance,If I am heading for the house, and Gus is with me, I just say no, and he doesn't even try to go into the house..

I fixed the gate into the main chicken yard today.. I poured a concrete sill and straightened the posts and re adjusted the gate.. all is working really well, now..

Pictures ? Oh sure ,, I am going out there in just a few minutes to take some..

Wow cs, that is a nice garden area!

Bbp, I think if you can not build your own vehicle, you shal no longer be allowed to drive one. Lol

Jim, soon there will be no projects left ;)

..
both gates . I am standing in the guinea coop yard,, the main chicken coop yard is to the left.
I built the gate on the right.. the sidewalk I made runs from that gate to the far end of the chicken coop,, It does not show up well in the shadow of this picture..

this is a close up of the gate in the closed position.
I got that gate free from Annie's cousin..

this is a close up of the newest sill.. I am going to leave the wooden forms in place until they rot away..
Yes, those dark spots are what you think they are.. chickens have no respect for my hard work.

Oh really ?? when will that be ?
I've been here for 48 years and never had nothing to do..

I had breakfast with DD#2 (Brenda) this morning,, she asked me why I didn't just sell the place and move into town ? I am all for that.. Annie is the one who won't move..

Well hail tonight, moved the car into the garage just in time, will be curious to see how the tomato's and pepper and squash make out.
BPP I am going to look for the liquid sure will be easier that Sevin Dust since I only have the 9 birds. Although I did read about someone who actually put the birds in a bag with the dust (heads out the opening of course) and shaking/dusting them... Hard enough to catch them when they know you have a plan let alone putting them in a bag with the head out. Somehow chickens get real smart when you have a plan... Otherwise they don't have the sense to get out of a rain storm
Going to have to look into the fermented feed you all have perked my curiosity to the point where I will have to act on it.
Kristi if I were you I would flip your feather challenged hen over and check her lower end... Those lice are quick and there are lots of feathers to hide in, if I had not seen it in the first couple of seconds I would never had seen it... Almost like a pale ant/worm with legs and darned quick. I never really noticed the feathers missing on the bottoms it was around the neck area and the front breast of another...
As for the eating the birds etc dilemma I will face that this November when the Turkeys become Thanksgiving dinner... I talk real smart but wear my heart on my sleeve... Still remember my grandpa butchering when I was about 7 and he just chopped and let them run ewwwww yep not going to ever forget that day...
Have a good fishfry Friday all
