Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

When I was trying to catch that little dog he had the hair on his back standing up and was snarling at me. My golden retriever got in there and I think if I wouldn't have stopped him, he would have killed that dog. They normally get along, but he did not like that little thing threatening me.

I came up with $185.00 as the total value of everything killed. She wanted to know, so I'll give it to her. But legally she's only responsible for the Barnevelder, who is now gurgling blood, so will be dead soon :(
JMHO but I think you're being more than fair on the price, I would be much higher considering time and feed to grow and condition these birds for the fair besides the loss you and your daughter will suffer not having the birds anymore to show. I know when they calculate things like this they do add in the cost of loss to your family as to what the original purpose of the bird was intended for. I'm sorry if I worded that crazy but I think you get what I'm trying to say. I guess I watched too many Judge Judy shows.

good morning,
cool, damp .. better than yesterday, computer wise.. I couldn't get online most of the day and into the night.. GS was outside at 10PM trimming branches from the trees.. didn't help much.
Our sending tower is just one mile to the south of us, but my property is loaded with tall leafy trees..
In the winter the reception is good, when the leaves are gone..
things will change soon,, the phone company is finally burying the cable for computer service out our way.. no more satellite or radio wave problems .prolly a whole new set of problems,,

was a nice rain, even though it kept me from my outside project ..
I still have not had to water the garden with the water hose..
perfect weather for a garden this year..
I have only 4 tomato plants in.. they are called Patio .. very compact tight self supporting bushes..
but slow to set blossoms.. it is a good thing that I don't need to can tomatoes this year.. I don't foresee a bumper crop ..

I have eggs due to hatch on the 19th,, then that is it,, the 3rd and last bator will be turned off..
then I am hauling all of the hatching equipment up and out of the basement..
going to set up in either the guinea coop or chicken coop..
I am thinking the guinea coop as first choice.. although I will have to beef up the electrical supply with a whole new breaker and lines..

then I will be able to take the chicks out and put them right into a brooder pen in the same room.
I will be able to handle a couple hundred chicks that way .. with a lot less work ..
another project for my bucket list ..

Hard to keep up with you guys! I was down for three days with a migraine so missed much here. Glad it's over with now...haven't had one in a long time.

Don't know yet if I can make dinner at the show although Mexican sounds good. Hope you'll post an update when the time gets closer. The breeder I was suppose to meet is not coming now so I have to figure out another way to get the birds. Has anyone here ever shipped adult birds? Any recommendations?

So glad we got rain! Now all I need is a little heat and I might even get a tomato or two. Last year only about half the crop ripened before frost. If that happens again I might need some green tomato recipes....can salsa be made from green toms?

BBP how well do you know your neighbor? Maybe you'd be better off to tell her to keep the money if she promises to use it to buy some kind of containment for the dog...a fence or one of the wireless containment units/collars. My fear would be that she just throws money at the problem and then the dog comes back again.

Very good idea!

I don't really know her at all. This is the one who moved in last year and while her brother was helping, his dog killed one of my lavender orps. The only time I've been over there was to yell at them for that. I have heard rumors that they're moving before winter, but not sure if that's true. If he does it again I may just let my dog tear him up enough that she has a huge vet bill. Then she can see what it feels like to see her pet suffer at the hands of another.

I was thinking along these same lines..
you don't really want to cause any more friction with your neighbors..
you see "show birds".. they see "chickens" ..
it would be nice to come out of this as being friends,, maybe not close friends.. but better than a future of bickering between the two of you..

make it clear that if you catch their dog in your yard with intent to kill, you will not bring it home..
you will take it to the humane shelter and she can bail it out $$$$..

make a catching noose, for your safety, like the dog catcher uses.. simple tool but it can handle even large animals .. can catch even snakes with it ..

I scooped him up with a big fishing net yesterday, set the kennel on end and dumped him in.
is my computer ever slow today,, frustrating ..

ahhh yes, the old fishing net trick..
it would be funny to watch your neighbor's reaction the next time they pick up a fishing net and their dog goes crazy ..
