Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good evening, finally,,

I was disconnected from the innonet yesterday and just now got back on..

It took a miracle, just like last time,, a phone call to our provider and within a few minutes we are back online..

we are going to drop this provider .. DSL just came into our area.. Annie called about dropping , they informed her that she signed up for 2 year contract , want a lot of money if we drop.. OK< then how about their not fulfilling their part of the contract ? like for instance, us being with out service for a couple of days at a time every once in awhile..

when the rep called, he suggested that maybe somebody parked a vehicle in front of the dish ? after I explained to him how that was not the case, he then went on to mention the two wire pens that somebody must have built thus maybe blocking the signal,, I informed him that those two pens were there 3 years before the system was installed.. why do they always want to make it somebody else's fault ? nothing here changed.. one minute we are online, and the next POOF , gone ..

anyhow, getting to the subject I came here for,,

It is OK to make pets out of the LGD.. they will then include you in their domain .. the big problem is keeping them on your property..

quit feeling sorry for them being alone,, they are loners by years of breeding.. If the dog whines, something (someone) did something to make it so.. maybe not you,, It could have been a neighbor or passer by just talking to the dog without you knowing it..

both of my dogs go nuts for petting when I go outside.. sometimes I do pet, sometimes I don't.. they have to live with whatever I do .. I am not their servant ..

good morning,

going fishing sometime today.. I have a lot of other things to do, but I am going anyhow.
I like fall fishing the best .. hardly anybody else is fishing and I have the whole lake to myself ..
and no crotch rockets or speed boats ..
the only waves are natural ones..

going to try for some crappies.. I rigged a crappie rod last night,, and two walleye rods..

I had my cuppa in a root beer mug this morning,, I like coffee in a clear glass .. seems to taste better .. try it, you will see ...

My flock is a mix of 19 weeks old and 23 weeks old and none are laying yet. With the fall weather and winter right behind it, are they still going to lay before spring???

what breeds do you have ?
some of the heavies , easter eggers, will probably not lay ,,

If you have buff orpingtons, rhode island reds , barred rocks and leghorns,, they might..

this by no means guarantees that any of the above will work..

I found that if you play with lighting, and supply a little heat, you might get them to lay..

If they use only the feed to keep them warm, then your egg production suffers ..

IMHO

EEs and black australorps in my flock. I read that supplemental lighting for pullets may cause them to lay before their bodies are ready and could result in a prolapsed vent? Oh well...guess I can continue to be patient. Maybe they will surprise me.

I took your "coffee in a clear glass" advice. It is exceptionally good!

don't believe all that you read,, they will not lay until they're mature..
If that what you read was true, then every chicken in Alaska would have prolapsed vents..

I read it in Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens, which I thought was a reputable source...

I read that book too and there are so many exceptions to every rule. I have a few that are around 25 weeks that just aren't ready yet. With my first batch some started at 23 weeks which ended up in mid October, but a few waited until mid-Winter.

As long as they have a safe environment, fresh water, fresh feed, and clean nest boxes they'll be alright to wait and they'll be alright if you decide to add light. Good luck :)
