Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

My SO got a yr & 1/2 doe, and she had some, but not the amount I'm used to seeing. But then, it was bow, & I'm more of a gun season person. So idk if time of year matters for fat reserves.
The deer should have a good layer of fat on them by now. The bucks especially have to lay on the fat before the rut begins .. they don't stop to eat so much once the fun - I mean rut - begins. :)

Hi all--checking this out early today! Cind...DH says you have a "Pukecchinni" I called it a punkinii but he liked the other better. We had some one year but they were more elongated than yours...tasted like a pumpkin with orangish flesh but shaped like a zucchini. Great for stuffing...or pie!

THey cut the corn (finally) from the back 80. NOw that darn fox has no where to hide! I am so glad. No losses lately--but maybe I will pay for that statement. I hope you get your critter Cind. (and anyone else battling with this too)

All of my babies are doing great! It is pretty odd how slowly the free range babies grow compared to the ones I have put into the brooder. I really want to set up an experiment between the growth of free range, FF fed and regular fed next year. A good one with weights and stuff...yeah, like I have the time for that right?

Perhaps I wont be working so much?

OOps....my BOC (beverage of choice) is empty...guess I need another!
Have a great night! TerriOheadingtothefridge

Windy Evening To Everyone.... I can't comment on the tallow either...still hunting, and the rut is on here big time.....chasing and grunting going on with plenty of fresh scrapes....I need to connect soon! My flock loves the trimmings too....my carcass is always my redneck feeder till it's picked clean.

Yep, nice hybrids Cind. Let us know how they taste.

Where was the Pack Sunday night? Hope the buy helps them heal up and prepare for the balance of the season.

Hi All!

No coyote yet. But the traps are out.

We had cabbage rolls for supper but I plan on eating that squash I cut yesterday. I'm not going to stuff that one, but I'm sure I'll come up with something. When I was trying find what kind of cross it was I came across this rather eloquent quote... "but if it was open pollinated and grew from a stray seed then squashes are very promiscuous so it may not be a thoroughbred but a bit of a mongrel." I thought it was well said! LOL I also came across this page...

Nothing else new.... Night All!

good morning,

got a couple of rods ready for some more wally fishing,,

also working on my ice fishing poles.. I mostly do jigging,, set up a couple of tip ups just in case ..

corralled the guineas again,, the guy who missed me on Monday is coming again tomorrow..

means I have to feed and water them in two different coops.. extra work,,,= no discount price..

have the bucket on Ollie again,, should clean out the two main coops before things begin to freeze..
not too much in either coop so it should not be a long job ..

I checked out the old water lines.. the guy who installed the original lines must have been charging by how many elbows he used.. what a rat's nest .. and this was a union plumber ??

doing some research of wireless fences for the dogs.. expensive devices, but if they work and the dogs stay on the yard, it should be worth it..
I found one that covers a 4oo ft circle,, that should do it ..

Very nice Stacy.

Jim, you may want to serch for used underground fence for a cheaper price.
I have had two experiences with electronic collar perimeter training.
My nuncle had a Shepard/Husky altered male dog. He generally stayed in the burried fence. But when a neighbor walked by or he saw something he really wanted he would pace the line. And then make the break. He would let out a loud screech. And freedom was his!
I found a Beagle for my Grandpa in law. She was timid and sweet. She had one of those boxes that have a certain radius. If she heard the beep she would run the other direction to aviod the shock at all cost.
Maybe it depends on the dog. And it is not much experience to go by.
Good luck!

I checked out the buried fence also.. not really much cheaper once I buy all the wire I would need to make the perimeter I want .. and then there is the problem of burying all that wire..

once the dogs learn the perimeter they are supposed to stay in, I think I could turn the fence off..

I had some young pigs in an electric fence.. they would squeal like crazy and then run at the fence, plop onto their sides and slide under the wire.. their mother stayed in very well, though,, when it came to moving her, we took the fence down.. she still would not cross over where the fence had been.. my bro Dave and I got together and pushed her over the line.. then she was good to go..

World Series evening All....I hope KC can pull it off. We would love not only the head coach to have this win, but also the 3rd base coach is from Clintonville and we know him fairly well...go Royals!

Still no deer....but hunting hard.

Time for pizza and the game....
