Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I've worked with a few dogs but I'm far from an expert. All the Springers I've had suffered from anxiety so I'm somewhat familiar with that but this one does some things I've never seen. He can be laying down calm, everyone around him just chillin and all of a sudden he starts to whine which turns into a howl then ends with barking. If you try to touch him while he's doing it the barking escalates into a full blown panic....I have no idea what's causing it.
Felt bad for him today. We were working on crate training and he was doing well...then he got a shock off the metal crate. Back to square one! Anyone have ideas about what I can do to keep the static electricity down so it doesn't happen again? With the cold and wood heat the air is really dry here.

Suppose to warm up some this weekend. I'd like to go hunting. Guess I'll have to feed/water and open the coops well before daylight so I can get into the woods.

My mo. N livesnup north and has a wood stove. She bought a ginormous old pot at a rummage sale and keepsnit on top of the stove filled with water.
Has he been vet checked? Very weird. Almost seems like pain.
Well, the car is finally fixed. And now hubbys truck is in. Good news is I found a guy that has a decent set of tires for the suburban. $50. It never ends!
Excited fornthe warmish weather that is forecasted for the weekend.

Huntress do you think it could be some sort of seizure disorder? That's what your description kinda reminded me of.

NOt much happening here...just finished dinner and I have to go out and close up. I am glad it is going to warm up this weekend too. Maybe I can get the rest of the stuff ready for winter! Our basement door is still not sealed and I bet there is a ton of heat heading out of the house that way. The windows still dont have their plastic stapled on either...maybe it wont happen this year at all.

I have been getting a ton of calls for dressed geese all of a sudden! People are really sad when I tell them I sell them live only! I must have put my number on some local farm site or something. One guy was wanting a fresh goose for Thanksgiving...I figured he should just come and get one and butcher it himself!

Cuties, with this cold I doubled my horses' hay! They are still eating every shred so it must not be too much for them. I sure wish they would grow a winter coat! It hurts me to watch them shiver in this miserable cold.

Guess I better head on out...nighties! TerriO

just came in from the shop,, I took a break around supper time and then went back out.. I had something I wanted to get done today.. I have the plucker wood frame all bolted together,, have the driven shaft and bearings all mounted.. have the driving bearings layed out and cut the final drive chain to length..

have a Dr appt at 10 AM tomorrow.. sure breaks up my day..
My VA Dr is retiring,, Now i have to go find a General Practitioner to monitor my Warfarin, the VA will pay for it.. I am not happy about all this.. I liked the people I was working with at the Tomah VA ..

We have an outdoor boiler but I'll heat some water on the stove...I hate getting shocks all the time too.
Dog has not yet been vet checked. He was brought (dumped) here by a coworker of my neighbor who could no longer keep him. I said I wanted all his paperwork...proof of rabies and the original paperwork from the rescue she got him from but I haven't heard back from her. I was planning on taking him to the vet she used because they would know his health history but I don't know who that is yet. Guess I'll try to track her down this weekend to find out.
TerriO he goes through the same vocalizations when he's left alone. If I'm out of sight or even if he can see me but can't get to me. Yesterday we did an hour in the crate, he could see me 5 feet away, but started with the whine, went into howling and then frantic barking. I just left him work through it as it seems like severe anxiety.
Sometimes I think he may hear something I don't as the furnace fan is sometimes just kicking in or out when he starts...I will surely keep the possibility of seizures in mind. I've had Springers with thyroid problems too so I'll get that checked out.
It's a shame that he's so messed up. He's so gentle and sweet it just breaks my heart. There has been some improvement though...he now 'sits', 'waits', and even though he still doesn't trust my boyfriend at least he's not trying to bite him! LOL

Jim, what watt light bulb do you use in the homemade heater??

F-f-f-freezing morning everybody!
Nothing new here really besides the weather getting colder outside and in! Even our indoor wood stove can't keep up with this cold. It's a balmy 59 in the room with it!!! Brrr

Ducks all doing good, the big groups hanging out with the chickens that we relocated into the new barn now.

The freezing wind don't help the "warmth" much and the rabbits sure dig holes almost everywhere through the snow! And sometimes the careless mole gets caught by a duck, the duck gets chased by the others while trying to eat it. Too funny to watch!

So far our scovies are doing good, staying a lot more on the straw of course but that's fine. The geese like their shelter cave cube too and huddle in there. SO just brought another old but cleaned glue tote cube with cage back from work. Free stuff is always good.

Sorry bout your friends wife bigz! It's never nice when someone dies but at this time of year it simply sucks!

We pay $4/bale of straw here and that is cheap! The other places are all asking at least $5 and up around here!

Can't find the dang hammer stapler since he "cleaned" out the carport. Just tossed it all in the garage, and the carport was FULL of tools etc. just could slap him over throwing everything and then complaining he can't find anything when he needs it...

Really looking forward to this "spring" weekend. Temp are gonna feel so much better after last nights freeze!

Gonna take care of the critters now. Later and stay warm!

I used 60W.. but my coop is insulated,, start at 60 and work your way up or down ..
there is a scientific reason I started with 60W.. that is all we had on hand at the time ...

I was thinking that maybe I would drill a few 3/8 inch holes around the rim,,that would let warm air to flow better, I think..

I also had mine plugged into a thermo cube.. no sense warming water that isn't going to freeze.

I normally get my straw up the road at 2.50 a bale, but he is all sold out for the year. We had to go to the *help yourself* semi trailers on Hwy 20 that sells them for $4. Joe used about 15 bales for Cookie outside, making her a covered maze so she can get out of the cold, snow, and wind. I tried to explain she will not use it since she cant see anything, but he is worried sick about her being outside. I also tried to explain she can go into any coop she wants for the night, she just chooses not to. She can't stand to be confined. She lays out in the bitter cold and snow storms like its 60 out. I cheek her feet often for ice cuts, she has good pads so far. She is still young and has those soft thick pads that can take the ice abuse.

I am not a fan of all of this cold, but I choose this over NY right now. Those poor people. Joes job talked to him about going and helping there. He is not going, but I would think they need so much help..

have you tried anxiety medicine for him? Our Aussie has thunder storm anxiety and we have to give her anxiety medicine to help take the edge off. Good luck it is no fun for any one to go through especially an animal that can't tell you why.
