Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Very good Irish :) Do you have a light for the girls? Or is it picking up naturally? We have heat lamps on. Abd the LB still are not laying. I am thinking we will not be showing the chicks at fair this year for them. They will be so late. And take soooo looong to grow out!!
I got two single comb BLRW on the hatch. I will sell them as pq. Hopefully with time I will weed that out of the line :)

Thanks for the welcome. I'm near Madison. Sounds like the consensus is to keep it close to the house for convenience, and deal with the weather come what may, so that's what I'm going to do. Thank you very much for your help!

Just remember, you're asking for opinions during the coldest part of the year. If you asked during the summer, you may get different answers. My chickens free range, so we try to keep the coops out of the yard. Their run is in the woods, so that if they do have to be locked up, its shady. Some breeds just don't handle heat well.

Well good news, I'm still cancer free(next month will be 2 year mark). They found ulcers in my stomach and colon(colitis) and put me on some new meds. I'm quite thrilled about the news beyond words expressed.

Here are the pics of the newest chicks hatched.

13/14 hatched in this batch. Next to hatch is 6 ducklings starting next week and more chickies right after that.

Nice Late Morning to everyone....suzie says thanks for the kudos sent her way!

Yep, the bbq and sloppy joe's are the same Jim. I think most folks use the canned stuff to make them...it is actually pretty good if you doctor it up with more celery and onions.

Congrats on the good news Sclark. I'm sure it is a relief to hear that.Congrats on the hatch too.

Went to church this morning to judge the pinewood derby cars for the scouts. Those kids put a lot of effort into those cars...kinda cool and unique with what some of them come up with....some paint jobs are really nice and different. The track has come a long way over the years, and is digital to eliminate any errors at the finish line...

We had the heat lamp on when it was super cold but turned it off recently because they can easily handle the normal cold. Today we've had 2 eggs, one sitting on the favorite nest and two waiting in line. Looks like production is getting back on track.

PS -If your "rejects" are female I'll buy them from you.

Done! Two 12" funfetti cake layers filled with fudge and frosted with buttercream. The dress is fondant. Time for a glass of wine and a nap!!!!!

Beautiful Cake....I'll take my piece with a glass of wine!

Backyard Poultry magazine came today...hard to believe that it's the ten year anniversary issue. I have every issue from the start, and think it was worth the money every year as well as issue. The coop from Alaska with the passive solar is awesome this month. One has to love the rough cut timbers and boards that make up it's lumber.

Venzun burgers on the grill outside today....Go Pack Go! My version of pep rally!

good evening,, it stayed light until almost 5 PM tonight,, I think we gain about 6 minutes more of daylight every day..

I found 10 bales of straw today,, built a bale shelter inside the chicken coop for the pups..
I checked up on them an hour ago.. they all made a break for the great outdoors.. took ten minutes to round them up.. I have a chick brooder for heat for them,, it is equipped with a night light also..

tomorrow I think I will let them out free ranging to see how well they can handle the snow and cold..

I think I found a flock of guineas that I can buy next spring.. almost all of them from 2014 hatch,,

One of Frankie's ancestors died today,, he was over 11 years old.
IDK if it was father, grandfather, great grandfather or what, ..

I got my new 1 HP motor all wired up and installed on the table saw today,,
now I can get back at my chicken plucker project again,,

cowboy beans for supper tonight,,
