Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hello Fellow Wisconsinites! I'm a newbie - don't even have my girls yet. I've spent countless hours on BYC learning everything I can! I love to hear about peoples actual experience, what worked, what didn't.

I listed my 2 turkey hens on Craigslist and someone wants to trade me for a cockatiel with cage. lol. Wost part is, I'm considering it. I could sell the bird at work if it was friendly. And obviously it needs a new home.

Welcome to the newbies!!
Brought the kiddos out for dinner and a movie :) was fun. Busy weekend for sure here.
We got a round bail last night. I bet it was quite a show the two of us rolling it out of the truck and across the barn! I did the math. And it has been costing $35 a month to feed both horses. Not bad! I thought it woj ld be more. However I do realise it has been a gentle one so far. While it was actually cold they were eating more.
The chickies are good. They have slowed a bit the past week or so. I habe a few already trying to go broody. And am convincing them via wire pen thag they want to wait a bit. CCan't believe how well that trick works.
Hope you all have a good weekend!

Welcome to the Cheesehead thread! You are my kind of newbie: research before you get an animal. Very very smart. Please let us know if we can help you out. We'll try our best.

You're from Columbia Co.? We drove up there to the humane society to adopt a cat last year. She was worth the trip and then some. What a little love bug. She is my favorite.

Welcome to the Cheesheads cluck....things will be picking up as we get closer to spring.

The Berghoff variety pack has been tasty today. It washes fish down really well. I like all of them and think they have become my beverage of choice.

I live about 2 miles from the Humane Society! Small world!

My family thinks I'm obsesses with chicken research. When I started gathering info, I made a Word document to copy info I felt would be important for me to have. I'm on page 22. And my subscription to Chickens magazine. And the many books I have bought. I feel it is my duty to know how to care for these living creatures that will depend on me for their life. I won't fail them!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Good for you! In my humble opinion, you can rarely know too much about any subject.

Bigz, I never heard of that beer before. I checked their website & it sounds like they have quite a few that both DH & I would like.

Hi All!

Welcome to the "newbies"

You will find if you ask about something there probably will be different opinions about the subject, in the end you must weigh it out do what you think is best for your birds in your situation.

Nothing new here, DH has to be at work at 4 AM.... that means I have to stay up to feed the chickens.

So instead of "Night All" it's Later All!

good morning,
BBP,, funny you should mention cockatiels,, Just before coming on here, I just listed cockatiels for sale in La Crosse, Wausau , and Green Bay.. Annie has about 18 of them she want to sell..

I am going to FF to see what I can jury rig together for a bushing for a pulley,, I have my jointer torn apart for tuning it up.. I want to increase the speed of the cutter head by about 1500 RPM;s..

I found a very nice flock of guineas that I think I can strike up a good deal on..
The guy who has them thinks he has too many,, there are about 50 of them,, I would like to take about half of them, mostly hens if I can..

and I am going to get some laying hens.. and as long as I am getting back into birds, I think a 100 meat chickens should round out the flock just right,,

only the Cornish X meaties will not be free ranging,, too many, too messy .. I have plenty (3) of chicken yards for them.. the really large fenced in area does not have a coop, though,, but if it is warm enough, they will do OK..

.

newbies,, you don't know what you just got yourselves into..
these folks are the friendliest enablers on the planet.. you will soon have way more
birds than you are allowed ..
I of course; am the exception..
