good afternoon.

the plans are all drawn up.. we are going to be in GB at 8 AM tomorrow morning,,
getting 2 male and 7 female call ducks.. I hope to set a lot of eggs.. I hope they lay some..

20 eggs in the gooses' nest now.. If one or the other doesn't start to sit on them soon I am cranking up another incubator..

I have supper out of the way,, I think I will go to the shop and modify a dozen egg trays for the sportsman GQF..

nothing happening in the hatcher yet.. I keep telling these women to bring smaller , fresher batches of eggs rather than collecting 120 over a longer period of time,, they just don't get it..

Jim do you put your egg trays in your hatching trays while incubating? The chukar trays I got with my sportmans fit on the rack safely without but I bought some egg ones and they don't seem to fit right and only 4 of the hatching trays fit inside the end bar(not sure what it's actually called but it's the first bar when you open door and the turning rails are after that) the other 2 are long(I assume are for a different model Sportsmans?) I have to use zip ties to hold the egg trays in place as sometimes they fall within the rail and causes major issues. It's a royal pita to zip tie as I have to try and reach my arm way to back to candle or remove the eggs or cut the ties and redo everytime. I ordered another kind and they were even longer yet so cut a whole row out to fit them in. The chukar trays hold safetly with or without the hatching trays so I assume that the ones I bought are not for the 1202? Any knowledge on this?

Irish, I wholeheartedly apologize if I have offended you with my brash comments about resellers. It was not my intention and I am deeply sorry.

I worked in a resale shop for almost a decade and knew a lot of resellers/antiquers. In this area of the state, the ones I knew anyway, were very cutthroat yet were the sweetest people you'd ever want to meet (to your face). There were a few honest, hardworking ones mixed in but they were as few as a kid that knows proper grammar. I do understand that they do a lot of hard work, travelling and research but bottom line, they are in it for the money. Spend as little and sell for as much as you can, for as you say, it is a tough business that may or may not ever pay out. And to them it is just business. I do deeply respect your sentiment above but unfortunately those two ideals rarely go together. Like you said, it may take years before the right someone comes along and is willing to pay the price you feel an item is worth.

The point I was trying to convey to Kristi was that resellers are businesspeople. They do not see a person's personal items and treasured mementos the same way and it can be a heartbreaking experience to someone who isn't familiar with the situation. The emotional attachment to a loved ones cherished personal possessions can be very strong as I am certain you know, and to see a stranger peruse them with callousness and indifference and then offer you an insulting pittance can be a horrible slap in the face. To someone who is already emotionally taxed with the illness of a loved one, it can be a devastating experience. I have been on both sides of coin. Neither are easy. I was just trying to help brace her for more potentially trying times ahead. I meant no disrespect to you and once again, I apologize profusely for my rudeness.

Our turkey hen is mildly attempting brood. We always seem to work late. When we collect the eggs she moves to the roost or if it is early enough outdoors.

Arenthese eggs started if she has sat on them all day for 1 day?

Then everyone will take my side and you'll be left in the cold... trying to run me over. But then you'd get a drunk driving because you drink like a fish at the Bash.

Cuties, I don't think one day of incubating could do too terribly much but I have no experience with turkey eggs. I hope someone can jump in & help you soon.

Terri did mention that she finally got in touch with someone who said the initial tests were negative but they had to be retested in 14 days. Fingers crossed for you Terri, and for all of us!

I have just glued some of these strips directly to the holders, then I don't have to mess with the extra wooded strips anymore ..
these strips are 1/2" x 5/16" by about 10" long,, I cut each end at a 45 degree so that they don't catch when I slide them onto the turning rack..

you might have different size sticks. depends on how much you need to widen the base of your holders ..
subtract the width of your holder from the width of the turning tray.. divide that into two and that is how thick to make the strips..

my trays are 12 inches.. my turning rack is 12 3/4 inches.. so I need two strips of 3/8 inches.
I actually made them 5/16 inch to allow for clearance..
I used Gorilla glue on the holders ,, just a small dab on 6 spots ..

I have to leave soon for GB , but when I get home I will take some pictures ..

I built hatching trays with wooden sides for the 1202.

I have more SF x IB chicks hatching along with 2 dif lines of BLRW and one d'uccle egg pipping like crazy. Put 2 Embden eggs in lockdown yesterday that I hope will hatch as my lonely boy needs a lady so he can leave those Tolouse alone. I have one batch of eggs I forgot to write down but since I write dates on every egg I know it's between this hatch and the next and can tell pretty well where they are all while candling. I've been pretty good about putting the batches in the Hatch a Batch app as soon as I set but must of been sidetracked the day I set this batch. Should check and put into lockdown today if my findings are correct.

Hmm... Jim. Mthag is weird.
When did they collect the eggs? You are out 3 weeks in the bator. And I remember you saying they alwYs collectnfor a long time before bringing them to you. Is it possible they were collected when it was still very cold out?
