break time, actually I take a lot of breaks..

I located my hand potato planter in the lean to.. the wire cage was slightly crushed but i bent it straight in a minute.. I tested it, and it seemed like it was is good working order, despite it being an antique..

I rototilled the garden #2 again, picked a bunch of rocks and stretched a string.. I planted two 45 foot rows of potatoes (about 100 potato seeds) I left a lot of space between the rows so that I can rototill the weeds later without disturming the potato roots.. I will hill them gradually as the plants grow..

Annie will pick up some pea seeds and set onions.. I already have beet seeds..

I will wait a couple of weeks before I plant the corn,, I found that it doesn't pay to plant sweet corn when the farmers are planting field corn.. just too early for it..

If you get a kiddie pool for the ducks, either supervise their swimming time , or/and provide a means for them to climb out of the tub.. they cannot swim forever and they will drown if given the chance..
what I found that worked for me was a rummer welcome mat.. just hang it over the edge of the tub and the ducks can walk up it from either side to get in or out ..
when they are very small, a cake pan full of water will make them just as happy they can be..
they do not have to actually swim..

I use medicated chick starter for chickens.. non medicated for ducks..
I have heard that the new medicated feed is OK for ducks, but I am too old to change now..
and I am not convinced that the medicated is really safe for ducks..

Now I have to go in search for the plates for the planter.. I lose them every year.. you would think I would learn, bit I don't ..

My friend picked up a set of plates for a hand planter at a pawn shop - for $2. He doesn't have a planter, but knew that I do. So now I have 2 sets sitting on the shelf for the planter that I haven't found yet in the boxes still unpacked from moving.

anyone have any idea on the value of old, antique stoves? even an estimate on weight for scrap value? I have three of them in various places that need to be cleared out.
Here are two of them:

Well, Dang. We won't be making it to the get together on Memorial Day. My son, who is a dump truck driver for Michaels only wants to char meat on the grill and sit around and his wife is way too much of a Diva to come to a chicken thing. But, I'll be thinking of you guys. Make lots of money and have a good time. Oh, and I am way to shy in big crowds to come by myself.

We're 90% ready for the girls to arrive on Friday! Inspection tomorrow, then I go pick them up at the CSA farm on Friday. So excited.

I'll lay down wood shavings in the bottom of the coop, with straw in the nest boxes and Sweet PDZ in the poop trays. I'm very, very pleased with how this coop turned out -- and SO happy with my DH (with help from our dads) for building it!

the bash is the NEXT weekend,, AFTER memorial day..
you don't have to feel shy around this bunch of people..
just show up, alone if you have to, and in a minute you will feel like you know everybody..
trust me, I have never lied to you before, have I ?

I went and picked up another 16 guineas late this afternoon..

WyoDr.. those are some nice old stoves.. is the first one a wood stove ?
I can find out what junk prices are, but you will not get much for junk unless you disassemble them into different piles , like cast iron, steel, and that enameled metal is just about worthless as junk..

put them on Craigs list.. that way you won't have to even carry them or load them,,

funny, I have two of the planters and no plates.. actually I have two sets of plates, all I have to do is locate them,, otherwise I can borrow my bro in law's.. again,,

there is still the option of doing it the old fashioned way and use a hoe ..

Look everybody,, how clean it is !!
are the 5 pails nests ? good idea.. I wonder if the inspector will be impressed with them?
after you are all done being inspected, you can sort of lose at least 3 of them,,
chickens do not normally sleep in individual nests. they roost.. whomever wrote your regulations didn't know squat about chickens.. don't tell any of this to your inspector,, just do everything you can to pass, then you can adjust things the right way ..

that's exactly what I'm planning on doing. One nest box per bird is so silly.
