Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good evening. Sorry to read about the losses.

This time of year its all work. Meat birds are growing out nice. They are not huge fans of fermented feed. The layers come running.
Normally don't ferment their feed...but since I was doing the meat birds.......

Will be enforcing the meat bird fence this weekend. It is time to get them out of the coop. Mr fox & I are still at a standoff.
No more losses of layers and their chicks. They have a very large run & I let them range when I get home...with dog & guard cat

I like the size of the marans/brahma mix at 9 weeks. The cockerels will go to freezer camp same time I do the meaties.

Hi All!

Sorry your girl didn't make it.

Nothing new here, but thought you might like to see how young son spent his birthday yesterday.....

It was a sunnier day than what it looks, he was in breezy shade. Life is so tough for him...lol!

Night All!

Just back from the meeting at Camp...plenty of events to stay busy with the next couple of months.

Sorry to hear about your project going array huntress...please keep us posted with how it's going. It sounds like the flock you brought in is the culprit, and transferred the illness to your healthy birds. Good Luck!

I believe you're right BigZ, the new flock brought it in. I kept them in quarantine for six weeks and they looked fine so I put the pullets in with my old flock. Two weeks after that they all started showing symptoms.
I used to take pride in how healthy my flock was and had a waiting list for birds...this year I didn't even get the flock tested so I could sell. There's no way that I want to pass this problem on to someone else.

I hatched chicks this year but I'm keeping them quarantined from the rest of the flock so hopefully I'll have some healthy birds to breed from in the future. I may get chicks to you yet but it'll take some time.

Wow, and I was upset that one died. Over it now tho. Someone who owns a bunch of chickens and works with my DS said it was probably just one of those things. I was concerned that it was because I gave her a bath. Well, and the fact that I do not know why she died.

Did not know WI had palm trees, and I went all the way to GA to see one.

So cute Jim!
Huntress, after your quarantine, keep the new birds separate. But add just one of your birds to the pen. Sorry about your losses :(
I wish my BYC worked better. Smart phones suck.

Afternoon all

Sorry for all the losses! I once heard "Sometimes chickens just wake up dead" ! I thought that was BS until I found out for myself that it was actually true.
Some idiot hit one of my guineas (nice pied) on the road. We live out in the middle of nowhere on gravel rd. Can't tell me whoever did it didn't know we have animal but the part that still ks is they didn't move it to the side.of the road and by the looks of the tire tracks looked like they I tension ally hit it.Just sayin .... I know $hit happens but have a little respect for the animal you just killed!

I totally agree. My son had my car one night on 54 up by Waupaca, was going around a long curve, hit a dead deer in the middle of the lane and sent my car airborn. The car and my son survived, but, I don't understand why people leave animals on the road.
