So here is a story (of a lovely lady...no just kidding). Tuesday night, the neighbors dog was outside barking all night long. So, Wednesday, I stayed home from work, because I was tired, and late in the day I asked them if she could come over to play with Theo.

Back ground story-they have a small yard, haven't yet completed the fencing to close up their yard, so the dog (which is still a puppy, golden retriever) is always on tie out.

To continue, I brought her into our fenced yard to let her play and run AND to get tired. She and Theo (both fixed) ran around for hours, yes in the 90 degree weather, they played until they couldn't play anymore.

So, the final question...did she bark last night? NO!

Since they each enjoyed it so much, we asked permission to have her over again.

Score FIST BUMP!!

rule of thumb is 1 foot of roost for each adult bird.. I don't think they need that much space,
I would run 3 roosts the ten foot way.. put the lowest on closest to the wall, and the highest one the farthest from the wall.. like steps, a foot high and foot away from the wall with the first one,
2 feet high and 2 feet from the wall for the next one and 3 feet high and 3 feet away from the wall for the highest one,, this layout makes it easier to scoop the poop from under the roosts..

Ok, understand that. Here is something else, this shed does not have a floor, it sits on dirt. A previous owner had a goat or a cow in there, there is quite a bit of staw on the floor. I will clean that out, do I put staw back down or is there something that would work better for a no floor coop....or should I put a floor in?

I'd put a floor in. Otherwise predators will dig under and kill your birds.

We've had a steady, heavy rain almost continuously since 10 am. I went out to check the garden late this afternoon and I had to poke the peas and beans back into the ground. This sandy soil doesn't stand up to heavy rain. I wonder how the tiny seeds are making out! Radishes are poking their little green leaves up so I think they'll be OK. The girls have been sticking to the coop today for the most part. Can't say that I blame them!

Sorry if I sounded harsh. I meant to say that there is the potential that a pred could dig underneath & corner your birds in your coop. If you aren't able to install a solid floor, I would at least lay down wire fencing. Something with small squares and heavy duty wire. And attach it to the walls securely if at all possible. A solid floor is much easier to clean and disinfect. HTH

Firstchick... I'm sure it was mentioned, but make sure your coop has good airflow! If you have windows in it get some hardware cloth and cover the windows so they can be open in summer. I think the heat can be harder on them than the cold.

momg.... I wonder how long that egg was in her then? Sounds like it's good it didn't stay in any longer.

Well, remember the boat young son and his friend got last year that they couldn't get to Hawaii? Well, he flew to Oregon where it wintered and he, another friend and a female experienced captain they hired are going to sail it to San Fransisco. From there not sure if he will fly home (to Hawaii) to go back to work or if he will sail back with them. I don't think his boss will give him that much time off though.


I do think they named the boat well though.

DS has decided to refurbish a shed that has a casement window on the south and north side. It is under soom really nice trees and I am going to have him put a screen door on it. I will get regular screens to put on it.....do you think that will work?
