Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Thanks for the info JVLS, I never thought about the poop part. The little ones wandered out last night late but DS saw the neighbors cat sulking around. Now this cat is around chickens all the time because the neighbor has like 70 of them. But I was still nervous. Boy I sure use spell check alot on this site.....I used to spell better the first time. So, We are putting in nesting boxes in the shed and roost and then moving the little ones to the tractor.

Thanks so much, Celtic Chick. You've been a great help.

So my son got CVC pipe=about 2" in diameter I think for the roost. I was concerned that it would be too slippery for the Hens, is that a problem?

Celtic Chick, thanks for your cheerleading!  I did "network" at a graduation party today, throwing out that I have a young roo who needs rehoming.
I might try CL, but I would prefer Cupcake (aka Clyde) to go to a local home (and not to a Crock Pot, but I have no true control over that). Sure is a sweet bird (until the hormones kick in?). No chance of an EE roo doing well with 3 others the same age, huh? *Sigh* I will keep you posted. At least my 11 year old daughter (owner of the transgendered chicken) understands that we might need to rehome.

I was in exactly the same position last year. The boys grew up together and got along. They fought for dominance but it wasn't a big deal. The biggest problem was that they would gang rape the hens. Some learned to evade them but for some it was just too much. Nature took its course and 2 roos died defending their flock. Now I have 2 flocks, one roo each, 8 hnss per roo. Now the hens are happier and the roos are still happy. We had an adventure with rooster collars too. They both wear homemade onesand the collars reduce volume and frequency.

Great to know. Since I'm in town, I have to keep my flock small. My DREAM is to get acreage in the next three years or so and go Chicken Crazy (and Llama Crazy and maybe Sheep Crazy). I was naïve enough to think Farm & Fleet didn't make sexing mistakes. Oops! It's a learning process for sure.

Nice afternoon here...was lookin like rain earlier....chickens love tomatoes firstchic...however the green part (leaves)...I would place in the compost pile. Maybe a little liquid fertilizer would help also...I feed mine a couple times a week....just simple miracle grow works well. Tomatoes do so much better in the ground with mulch around them and room for their roots to spread...in my opinion.... we grow bushels and bushels here.

Yep, bl4...we have a date with Jennie tomorrow for a ride in the wagon....we will also be picking a large amount of peas...hope you picked and ate a bunch of those too! They have a set-up there like no other... so easy peasy and at a fair price.

Well, I 70 and I'm the one doing the growing so its just small beds for me. That way I don't have to bend over so far. Anyway, do you live semi close to Clintonville? I would love to buy Peas, tomatoes. beets.corn and beans for canning, probably a bushel or two of each. If you sell.
