Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

So out walking yesterday in the mile high grass patch DS found a nest-with 10 eggs in it.....none of them floated in water, so guess they are good. Now that we know where those girls lay, we will keep a look out....or they don't get to free range again. Happy 4th to everyone.

Happy 4th to everyone...gave my newly hatched bunch their freedom today with a nice outside pen to get some grass....it works well for the old flock to get use to the newbies outside before everyone becomes the main flock.

Nothing special here...venzun burgers on the grill....

Have a safe one... bigz

hope everybody is enjoying the Holiday..
I stopped for gas yesterday.. what a zoo.. everybody was acting like it was the last drop of gas in the county .. I'm surprised no fenders got rubbed ..
I had to wait 20 minutes just to get to a pump..

good weekend to stay at home..

I have one late hatched guinea in the chick TV ..he is drying for company..

If I had the ambition, this would be a good one to hand raise.

My spring for the lawn mower was in Chicago on Thursday.. with the 4th , it won't be here until next week.. thank you Fed Ex..
I bought a tighter spring from Maynerd's today,, maybe It will work until I get the real thing..

Happy 4th of July! Had a lovely day at the store today where some family came out to BBQ with us - adults, kids, dogs, chickens, and customers - everyone had a good time!

The smallest of the chickaroos have been spending their days in a bunny cage on the lawn - won't be long until they graduate to the tractor.

The critter wars are back on as the ground hog family came back with a vengeance. Almost everything has been nibbled on, holes dug all over the place, some plants were torn out by the roots, and all but three cabbage plants are down to sticks. GRRRRR! I cornered big mama by the fence yesterday and I was so mad I pelted her with rocks I keep in a planter on the corner of the garden to keep the hose in line. When I ran out of rocks I put the planter over her so I could retrieve the keys I threw at her when I first saw the damage they were doing. She dug her way out before the hubs arrived with the gun. I threw a couple of ammonia balls down their hole again but they must have new digs somewhere else as it didn't stop them. We were putting up a reinforcing rabbit mesh on one length of the fence until after midnight last night. So far, so good. I'm almost ready to dig it all up and put in a cement pond!

TWO of the cats the neighbors left behind when they were evicted have practically moved into the chicken coop. I need to borrow those live traps again. At least these two don't eat eggs and the chickens don't seem to mind them. One night one of the cats was sleeping in a nest box when I arrived to close up the coop.

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Hello cheeseheads. I'm a new member from Sugar Creek Wisconsin. I have a flock of 12 hens and 1 rooster, and soon getting 5 Welsh Harlequins. Nice to see so many Wisconsinites here. Happy Independence Day!

and to the Cheesehead thread! Hope you like it here.

Jim, that's just crazy about the line for gas.

Went to my sisters for a cookout today. Thankfully the traffic wasn't bad either way. She told me there was a white turkey hanging around her coop for a few days but she couldn't get close to it. Then she opened the gate to her run & it walked right in. Mom said it was the funniest looking turkey she's ever seen. Turns out it's a guinea.

I guess they have never seen one before.
