Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All!

Welcome to the new people!

Found out one of our cats is a "scaredie cat!" Neighbors where doing fireworks and he hid under the bed. Meanwhile, his brother just lied on the bed, took a bath, a nap, a snack, and another nap.

Nothing new.

Night All!

Gave my English Setter his doggie downer treats at about 6pm. The neighbors have accepted an offer on their house so they were celebrating a little. The dog was starting to get stressed, so treat time. He was still a little anxious, but he was able to lay on his bed and relax with his eyes closed most of the evening. Two more treats before bedtime and we were good for the night. We watched the city fireworks from our bedroom window - well, about 1 out of 10 were above the tree line. We are about 6 miles away and 50 feet higher.

Hi guys :)
happy belated 4th! Hope you all celebrated your freedom in the best way you know how! We did :) met up with a friend for dinner for chicken talk ;)
it is very peculiar here. The kiddos had a sleep over with grandpa. I think this may be just about the second time since I had kiddos that I have been at home with out them!
I wish I could show you a picture of the mama duck and her babies!

and to the Cheesehead thread! Hope you like it here.

Jim, that's just crazy about the line for gas.

Went to my sisters for a cookout today. Thankfully the traffic wasn't bad either way. She told me there was a white turkey hanging around her coop for a few days but she couldn't get close to it. Then she opened the gate to her run & it walked right in. Mom said it was the funniest looking turkey she's ever seen. Turns out it's a guinea.

I guess they have never seen one before.

Welcome all you newbies. This is a great site for sage advice, but, don't expect any from me, as I am way new to chickens.

We cut down some pine trees along our driveway. They are about 10 to 12' tall. If we let them dry out, rent a chipper, can I use that for bedding for my birds?

Another nice weather day here, eh! Welcome to the new folks! A lot of great folks here!

I don't know that I would bother firstchic...at $5 a bale for good dry stuff the rental cost, plus running there and back would make no sense....maybe cut up the trunk and large branches for the fire-pit. It smells nice when burning...however, if you stack it to dry, be sure to cover it with a cheap tarp to insure it does cure well.

Be Safe..bigz

Well we are gonna have a heck of a pile of firewood then, cause we have about 10-15 trees that were cut down. But, you are probably right. DS is putting up roost and boxes for the chicks today, I know they will not be using the boxes until much later, but,,they will be there when they are ready....we did go with the 2 x 4's for the roost. The shed wound up being 7 x 10. I did not think it was that big. DS was trying to catch the runt of the litter, but the Roo was having none of that and went after DS.....so he decided he would leave the runt alone. I just laughed. I wanted the runt as my pet, but, they are so skittish, that may not happen. Unless, someone tells me how to calm them down.

good afternoon,

got the laen mower fixed,, got almost all the lawn mowed and then something else broke.. IDK what it is, yet.. I just turned the motor off and came into the house..

had a piece of strawberry short cake..

next I have to take a picture of the newest baby cockatiel to put on Craig's list ..

thinking I might watch the U.S. women's soccer team beat Japan starting at 4PM today..

........jiminwisc.........

Butchered my packing peanuts today, a little small at 10 weeks but two fed 4 people. I read that "regular" chickens taste way better than the store bought ones but nothing stated compared to the reality of it....my daughters loved them so much they tried to suck all the flavor from the bones. I hope to never buy another chicken from the store again. Can't wait until my hens begin laying, those eggs will be awesome.

Game started at 6pm, or were you pregaming? What a game it was, too!

Girls are doing well, at least two laying. We've gotten an egg each day for the last 8 days, then two today. Seems they're figuring it out. :)

Hope all had a good 4th.
