Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

YOU MAY DISAGREE WITH MY BLESSING,,
WHAT YOU HAD WAS NOT THE NORMAL REACTION..
MAYBE IT WAS NORMAL FOR THE INJURY FACTOR..

i HAVE RAISED THOUSANDS OF CHICKENS OVER MANY YEARS,, HAD DOGS, OWLS, FOXES AND HAWKS HIT MY FLOCKS.. ALMOST AS SOON AS THE ATTACK IS OVER, THINGS WENT RIGHT BACK TO NORMAL..

MAYBE MY CHICKENS ARE NOT THE HIGH STRUNG BREEDS ?

COOT WAS A TYPO,, IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE COOL ..
THAT WAS MY SECOND MISTAKE FOR THE YEAR.. THE FIRST ONE WAS MY TRYING TO PASS ON SOME HELPFUL INFORMATION..

Ahhh sarcasm is so lost in the typed word Jim

Always, always admire the work ethic you and Annie have, I can not imagine butchering all those chickens. You are selling some? I mean 80 chickens, that's a lotta chicken dinners! Gary will if he can find them use just gizzards to make soup. Me I just don't like the look of them and the name alone is enough that I won't eat it unless blind folded

Oh and Jim... and anyone else who may know. Dog advise please for the DD... She adopted a pup... 9 months old, a mix currently 36" at from toes to top of head, but he had surgery and is on crate rest and she can't exercise him much. He chewed up his 2nd dog bed... Is there a trick or like I told her let him sleep without a bed and then when he is better and getting more exercise, see if he stops the chewing? He had a kong with peanut butter and a meat bone with marrow to gnaw on but must have liked the way the foam shredded...

My goodness turned to fall in one day...

good afternoon,

Met Annie for breakfast, then came home and got nothing done around here..

MomGill, our work ethics came from never having enough money to hire things done.. So we learned to do most everything for ourselves..

When we do just a dozen birds, we don't break our necks at it..
I catch, kill scald and pluck,,, Annie just about keeps up pulling guts..
then I clean up the plucker, and scalding kettle, rake up the feathers, and by that time almost all the chickens are gutted.. I might have to gut one or two to help finish up.. then I clean the table and change the water in the COOLin tub.. I change it a couple of times until it becomes clean and clear ..

we stick the chickens into the refrigerator over night and bag and freeze them the next day ..

Annie asked me last time, How did we ever do 100 in a day ? one time we did 100 per day,, two days in a row on a weekend ..
Our 3 kids used to help when they were still at home,,

Annie's brother was supposed to go halves on this 100 chickens.. and his wife said she would help butcher, too.. I guess they lost interest,, so we will do them all and if they want any, they can buy some butchered ones.. Annie said that if they don't want any, good,, then next year we will still have plenty and we won't have to buy any chicks or do any butchering. ..

I would suggest more toys and bones etc also we have some balls that are awesome... Will look for the name or maker but you can get them at mounds idk where else. We have a dane that had that fetish she got hit and had to be locked up after a plate was put in her shoulder for like three months this was before I was in the picture. But anyway she had that and is basically just now getting over it. As long as the dog doesn't eat it I would say try one or two blankets as bedding so they can move them around and paw them without finding a gloriously fun pile of white fluff or foam lol

the lady I bought these pullets from said they were production blacks..

IDK.. any ideas ?

the one in the bottom picture is the one I thought was a rooster.. ?? Annie says pullet ..

the 6th one is a loner.. does not include herself in this little know of chickens..

Has been a busy work season, but an easy summer for temps.

Working on different properties every day make it interesting.

In 25+ yrs I have never been on a amish property that had phoenix chickens.....until today!
Beautiful birds.

Pull apart the Feathers on their saddle, you will be able to tell either, pullet or cockerel .. The cockerel feathers will be pointed..
