Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Two less Roo's in the world... Not a bad weight for free ranging and just shy of 20 weeks 4 lbs a piece. Resting comfortably now in the fridge. Black pin feathers maDe me skin one, and left the skin on the other though when roasted we can remove it.
Hoping for a 4 and 0 day for the Pack later, got some perennial gardening to do... Poor Gary I move plants way too much!

Packer Sunday to all.... Great job on the coop Stacy....looks nice enough to live in!

Good to hear that your butcher job is complete mom.....that is good weight for their age. I prefer to use them for soup or roasting...the flavor is how chicken is posta taste...

Lost another bird to the fox.....that makes 3 this season free ranging......I think the fox will end up getting trapped for fur and paying for my losses.

Chilly here in the house....I should start a fire, but prolly won't....

GO PACK!

We moved 1/2 ton of pellets to the front porch yesterday. DH filled the stove this morning. Heating season is upon us!
They are harvesting the soybeans in the field across the street today. They started last night at about 9:00 - thank goodness they stopped at 10. I am always in awe at the size of those combines that they use now-a-days! Noisy beasts also.

Stacy, that is amazing.

Wyo, we went out to the farm field next door to our property after harvest and took in a bunch of the missed corn cobs! We shucked them and dried them to give to the chickens over winter.

We also have now increased our egg production to 4/14 hens- with our first Easter Egger giving us our first colored egg today!

It's a lovely seafoam green.

This past week I picked all the apples off of one of my trees (the other looks dead...) and made applesauce. I expected with the skin blemishes that about half of each apple would go to waste (we didn't spray), but the blemishes only went skin deep. I wound up with 8 quarts of cinnamon applesauce- and half is gone already! The rest is in the freezer; we don't have canning jars (which will soon have to be remedied). Hubby also made four quarts of pasta sauce with our tomatoes, basil, and onions. I also have copious amounts of zucchini on the counter that I don't know what to do with; if nothing else I will have to cut them up and freeze them for the chickens for winter.

Go Pack! My dog has his Packer bandana on- every game he has had it on before the start of the game, we have won...

Derned Brett, I do love foxes, not sure what I would do in your case... Going through the whole hassle of trapping etc., I would give the fox a pass... we had a couple of pet fox as pets when I was very little, they had the scent glands removed. I recall them being very much like cats.
Last year we had our two wood fireplaces converted to gas... so love being able to hit a controller and getting the chill taken out of the room!
All our hens are on strike... 4 in molt and 4 yet lay.... one egg a week, not making me happy

Hi All!

Great work Stacy! Don't know how you manage all that with your health issues. I couldn't take on something that big anymore.

Night All.

Honest Cindy, me neither. I'm breaking down pretty good. I think my drive is the so and kids pushing me with their complete lack of give a **** in the current house. Me and grandbaby are living in the new one. This is my dream before I go. I just want to sit at my little table and drink coffee in the morning while watching my chickens do their thing.

good afternoon,,

I almost have the plucker finished,, had to go buy a new motor for it.. something I didn't want to have to do.. I thought I could use the motor off of my table saw.. I have it all mounted and running, and then I remembered that this motor is 3450 RPM twice as fast as it should be.. the feather plate was spinning like a blur .. 422 RPM Instead of 211 RPM .. I probable could have plucked the chickens with out scalding them,, LOL
