I got my chicks on June 9th and got my first 2 eggs yesterday and 2 more today. Yeah!
So at about 15 1/2 weeks old, they started laying. We'll have to see how long it takes for the other 10 to start. DH asked what I plan to do with about 8 eggs a day ... um, eat them, bake with them, and share them! Too many eggs - never a problem!

Busy Fall Day today again.... worked on cleaning a small part of one garden....that feels good.

The Asian Beetles are in full bloom here...I don't like them at all...NASTY for sure.

Venzun Burgers and grilled onions with ho-made buns tonight.

Glad to hear it's workin cuties....

Nice pics huntress....hope this project works out this time.....that's the big problem with all the effort....time....only so much of it, eh!

Huntress, I am happy for you to have chickens again. And what a magnificent breed you chose! ♡ the Brahma boos as we call them here. We have lights.
Momgille, the BLRW we have hatched in January and February. These big girls that are not hatchery bred take. Bit longer to mature
I have also heard that eggs can taste or smell fishy when you feed them fish. When the boys go fishing the chickens get the leftovers.
We water inside when they are kept in breeder pens. I use the big plastic ones on the circular heaters. I put a ciramic tile between (thanks for that tip BigZ ). We do have issues with the ducks getting the main/free range coop wet. So in summer we water outdoors. And in winter the ducks move to the outhouse so the chickens can have their water inside. I found that quite a few of the chickens here hate the outdoors during winter.
Why are my ducks trying to nest again?! Do they not realize this is the wrong time of year??? Silly ducks.

Cuties, I do not mind that they are taking longer.Even though we do not "breed" I love a good bird and their size does amaze me, so pretty. Are yours so wary?.. My older 4 are molting, but they do not look bad, so I hope its a molt. The only one doing anything is the barred rock... Love that sweet on an egg ever other day...Olive egger, Maran and Americauna have not laid a thing in 3 weeks... sigh...only 2 1/2 years old.. hoping it is only temporary...Maybe they have not noticed there are two less in the coop?

Love it Cindy... Jim's poor birds may be dead but still getting a heck of a ride on the tilt-a-whirl...

hi all,

I worked on the plucker until 9:45 PM tonight.. I have everything done except getting the new motor mounted.. I got ALL of the fingers pulled in,, about 120 of them,,

I had to replace the plug on the table saw,, then I put a cord and a plug on the plucker motor..
tomorrow I will mount the motor and if I have time, I will wire in an on/off switch,,

Thursday or Friday will be butchering day here.. going to shoot for all 21 of the meaties that are left..

anybody who wants to can bring their chickens here for plucking,, I can show you how to gut them too, because I can't spell eviscerate ..

I am enjoying a spotted cow.. my last one,, then I have to switch to Corona..

went to the VA clinic today.. the Dr was not happy with my weight.. I had to promise to lose 20 pounds or else she was going to mess with my meds..

They were so rotten only about a 6 foot section came out, originally thought that the whole barn would be coming down. Hooked on again up higher and this time the rest came but only the hay mow floor fell. Son hooked another beam from the eave and just part of the front wall came with it. What was standing on the front is still standing. So went to the East side that I had been taking most of the roof and wall planks and took 2 of those posts. Owner stopped in and I guess they are Cedar, that would explain how they were so rotten. I did however yesterday morning get all the fence up that extended my chicken run and I have some really happy birds!
