Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Oh there ya go Jim! A guy brought in a car kill the other day that I swear got hit by 3 semis. I couldn't believe it
.Really ?!! I don't think I would have guts enough to do that..
I have the little buck skinned.. it is not as bad as I thought,
both hind quarters are fine, only the right side front quarter is blood shot.. I can save most of the blood shot leg.. so we should be happy with 3/4 of a medium sized deer..

It started out pretty cold at 8 AM< but now it is really not too bad,

by supper I should have it all cut , ground and in the freezer..

Awful nice November day here in the neighborhood. Shoulda went hunting today, but we spent most of the day cutting up deer. Still have 2 hams hanging and one backstrap to finish cleaning....maybe some woods time tomorrow afternoon.

Nice getting venzun delivered to your house Jim. Beats freezing in the stand, except for the thrill of the hunt.

The young birds have been free ranging for a while...now I have three separate flocks that all hang their separate way away from one another....silly birds.

Suzie made a big kettle of chicken soup for the hunt, as well as 24 bread rolls...it's all gone but a cup of soup now. Those cockerels make the best soup!

Have Fun...bigz

somehow I just erased my whole post,, not to start over.

yup, I like hunting from the comfort of my recliner.. I do not miss the thrill of the hunt.. on slow days in the woods I would always sit and think about what I could be doing at home..

Dave hunted alone today,, the rest of the crew had to work, He did not get anything,

final tally on my deer. I saved everything except the right rib cage. every rib was broken,, I deboned the whole thing and ground it up for dog food..
the left rib cage is cut up and in the freezer.

I have all the rest of the deer cut into chunks. tomorrow I will make roasts, hamburger and steaks..

there was no fat on this deer either, just like the last one,
People used to say , that was a sign of a mild winter coming up.
Remind me of this in January when it is -20F ..

Better ger into the woods tomorrow Brent,, the next couple of days are forecasted to be really lousy ..

Hi All!

Well, my son came over, he didn't get a deer. Only saw 2, one got spooked before they realized it was even there and the other one his buddy was on the other side of. As good a shot as he is, no way would he risk it. He's going to go a couple of places around here over the next few days. He did board up the broken windows in the coop so that possum shouldn't get in again. He also moved some stuff around for me so it should make winter easier.

Good luck on the hunts!

Night All!

P.S. The butcher where my sons worked gave back the same meat. Each deer had it's own tagged bag/bags. They would ask if people wanted the organs, most didn't. For those that did, sometimes they would throw extra in.

Cind, I hope your son gets a nice deer..
That organ thing might explain why Auntie got two hearts.?

I am going to start some of the cooking today, if I am not too tired out from cutting up the rest of the deer.

I make Thanksgiving dinner every year.. Annie always has to work on Wednesday night just before..
we are having 9 or 10 people this year.
I am making the dressing, roasting two 8 pound cornish rock X pullets , buttercup squash instead of sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy, creamed corn from the garden , condiments and Annie made a carrot cake with creamed cheese frosting..

Got another dozen eggs yesterday. I have at least four of the littles laying now. And most of the 15 big girls although we do have a couple that are still getting the kinks worked out. I'm so thrilled. My three littlest girls have come through their fight with cocci and I'm grateful to have saved half the six for my first experience with it. It was crazy how fast they went down. But the three I have left are now back to being mischievous littles and I'm almost certain are all pullets. We are starting to introduce them now that everyone has been treated although they're not thrilled with the idea. They are terrified of the other birds even the oegb that are smaller than them.

Rainy and dreary. Seems like a good day to make a pot of cheese broccoli soup. You wouldn't believe my struggle to find sourdough bread bowls. Happy turkey day tomorrow!
