Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Quote:
I milked the goats also, loved the milk.. we got rid of all the goats about 1978. I haven't drank milk since. I can't stand that slimy cows milk.. don't like the flavor, either.

we used to make cottage cheese.. or our version of it.
Annie likes yogurt so we made lots of that. I don't like yogurt .. I like cheese and ice cream.

We had to be careful of what the goats ate..
what they eat really flavors the milk.
I mixed livestock molasses with grain and fed that as I milked.. .

we butchered a few bucks,.
called it "poor man's venison".

Only one very young Saanan buck was too goaty smelling and tasting for us to eat. we cooked him for the dogs.
He was neutered. IDK what happened there.

we had a big un-neutered billy goat who was at least 4 years old.. I had to shoot him because he got crazy and attacked my son. His meat was as nice as could be..
Go figure.

Speaking of goats....

Does anyone near Waupaca have goats? The person who provides milk to a local store is getting out of the biz and they are looking for another supplier.

You can't just sell milk from goats.. the regulations are the same as for cows..

goat milk just will not seem to catch on in this country.
too bad,

we had a local family who's one son could not tolerate cows milk,, instead of selling them milk, we lent them a goat for 2 years.. they sent the goat back . IDK if the boy got over his problem, or if they just got tired of milking a goat..

Hi H&R! Glad to see you back.

Cute bunnies.

Yeah, putting ACV in a metal anything is a big no-no. The "mother" is a natural by-product of the fermentation process and is only present in "raw" or unpasteurized, unfiltered ACV. It appears as a light colored gelatinous glob floating in the bottom of the bottle.

You usually don't have to worry about any slime building up in the water in the winter so ACV is unnecessary. I have well water too but my water turns kind of orange-ish so I add vitamins/electrolytes in the winter to keep it from turning orange. In the summer, the ACV keeps the water clear, which is when I use my plastic waterers. Summer, ACV, plastic waterers. Winter, vitamins, galvanized.

Vitamins/electrolytes are also really good to use on really hot days to help them cope with the heat. It can be used in any type of waterer.

Cind, I hope you are better real soon. Good luck with the scope. At least they knock you out real good when they do it.

I'd tell them about the thrush before the procedure though.

There's a big goat operation in the works in highway 52 or highway z between antigo and Wausau. It's gonna be quite the milking operation. I believe the guy is shooting for somewhere around a couple or few hundred head. So goat milk may be in the near future around here somewhere

a quite a few years back a guy from upper west Wisc had a few hundred goats.. but then I heard that he had a big fire. IDK if he quit then, or rebuilt .

It is funny, when I had goats, it seemed that everybody could seek me out.. and I would hear about goats all over the state..
but I am out of the loop, now..

Evening to all.... Happy day at the feed mill today when I picked up 5 bags of layer feed and they were only $7.60 per 50lbs...I liked that for sure.

Hope everything goes well Cind...sounds like you have it figured out.

Everything else is going good...but we don't need the snow that's coming next week...heck with that.
Maybe it will go West or East of here instead of right at us here, that would be nice.

Easy peasy FFF tonight with store bought battered fish and frozen fries in the oven....Suzie needed a break tonight and it was actually not bad.

Be Safe..bigz
