Oh, Tommy. My husband may or may not be trying to teach our dog to retrieve his beer. We had an incident/popped can last week & I think it's equivalent to chickens eating eggs-- once they have the taste, it's hard to fix.

Evening to everyone.... nice save bbp, I hope it recovers completely and flies away...unless they nest up there by you?

Thanks Irish for the information, guess I did see that name before then!

Glad you stopped by Terri.... nice eggs.

Been busy in the woods makin firewood. My big saw developed a problem with the manual oiler...so it's off to the fix-it shop with it tomorrow. It's a must on that saw to be able to use it.

I reserved Camp for 2017 today...they are starting to book dates for 2018 already and I want to keep the same weekend every year for as long as possible.

Hard to believe you are planting already cs....we have frozen water in the outside waterers most mornings yet, and the ground has to thaw each morning too. You will be munching radishes before I get seed in the ground.

Have fun...bigz

Someone just posted this on a chicken thread on Facebook thought I'd share....

This is the reason I fell in love with all chickens! I wrote this a couple months before I got mine.
The lesson's I learned from chickens
I have just experienced the worst year of my life. I had to watch my daughter walk away from the only family that has ever loved her to go out into this big world on her own well before she (or I) was ready. I had to watch my mom slowly lose her battle with cancer. I had to find my way out of a very dark depression. I had to adjust to my new role as a twenty-four hour caregiver to my mother in law. To say it's been a rough year is an understatement. However, somehow my family and I survived. Maybe a little battered, maybe a little bruised but survivors none the less. Somewhere in the middle of all this pain and suffering I became obsessed with chickens. Our neighbors have a few and they would occasionally wander into our backyard and feed on the birdseed that had fallen to the ground. I would sit and watch them for as long as they stayed. I fell in love with their personalities. These chickens seemed to have all the answers I needed to know about life and how to find my happiness again.
Here are the lessons I learned from watching chickens:
* Wake up early, and stay busy
* Rest when you need to, but always stay alert
* Visit your favorite places every day
* Scratch out a living
* Routine is good
* Being plump is better
* Don't ponder your purpose in life - your brain is too small and it will make you crazy
* Accept the pecking order and know your enemies
* Weed your garden
* Look after your children
- Sit on them if necessary
- Take them for walks, show them the little things that are so special and talk constantly
* Make a nice nest - and allow your friends to share it
* Brag about your accomplishments
* Protect your nest egg
* Test your wings once in awhile
* Squawk when it's necessary
* As you age, demand respect
* Leave a little something for those who care about you
* Always chase butterflies
I will be getting my own little feathered educators of life this spring to keep reminding me of what's truly important.

Hi everyone,

I have a final plan for building my chicken feeder.
I want it to hold at least 50 pounds of feed and be waste retardant, if not waste proof.

actually I have a couple of good ideas.

since I have tons of lumber to use up, I am thinking of making at least one out of wood.

If it works out, I will share pictures and plans with anyone who want them,

Now I have to go get ready for the snow that is supposed to be dumping on us tomorrow .

good pre-snow morning,

I am going for a can of gas for Ollie, just in case I am forced into plowing snow one more time.

also going to pull a few pine boards off the pile to cut into pieces for the feeder I am going to make. lots of cutting and planing and then gluing, to do.

I washed a couple of the oil pan feeders, yesterday.. they sure get gunked up in the coop.
