Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Wife and kids are campaigning for a dog, one kid is allergic and reacts badly to oily breeds like labs which is what we had before kids, I am the lone opposition to a dog. I think we are gone too much(swim lessons, Daisies etc.) to be fair to a dog and it would be all my responsibility since I work closest to home and get home earliest. I had suggested bunnies as something lower maintenance where the other members of the family could prove they would contribute to care, but it was shot down because they want something indoors. I think the real reason it was shot down is because my wife knows I will endup being caretaker and that just strengthens my position against a dog.

Hey,this whole chicken raising thing was my wife and kids idea originally. Now I'm the "chicken whisperer" of the family. I take care of them, and have grown to love it. I'm still a rookie, but I learn as I go.
So what kind of dog are you getting?

Good to hear that they arrived safe and sound bbp! Hope all the buyers show up for you now.

I would get the dog you like best b4k...cause it sounds like it's gonna be yours anyway....

Bunnies make good indoor pets. They can be litter box trained. You can't leave them run around the house without supervision, though, as they tend to chew things - like electrical wires.

I also agree that rabbits make great indoor pets. My sis had rabbits that had a huge litter so I took 2 of them. The parents were not "indoor" pets, but to my surprise the 2 babies I got had the litterbox instinct and used it all the time. When they got older they lived out in the coop with the chickens. They all got along great.

I also went to the humane society in Waukesha (years ago) to adopt a rabbit but they would not adopt to anyone unless it is going to be kept in your house. So an indoor rabbit would be an option. They do need exercise and attention to avoid destructive habits though. And everyone should be aware of how to properly hold & handle them to avoid injuring them. We took in a dutch from someone who got her from a rummage sale only to find out later she had a spine injury. It didn't affect her until she got old but it was still sad to see. Good luck with whatever the fam decides. :)

Chewed wires is one of my favorite Christmas Vacation scenes.

So, what would be the options for breeds?

I swear, every time I looked out the window today (yesterday to you all) the weather was different! Those poor chickens must have been so confused!

Night All!

good morning,

woke up at 3, got up at 5. all cuppa'd up already,

just waiting for it to warm up a little so I can go out and work in the unheated shop. I do have a stove out there, but it hardly pays to light it up and wait for the room to warm up.
I can go about an hour at a time before my hands get too cold to work.

chickens still on strike. some major culling is due .

I think I will just buy a bunch of laying type chicks and raise them myself. can't trust the people who sell "POL" pullets .
