Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Also I thought I would ask on here. I posted this question on a different thread but no one responded all day. Just a question about one of my chicks. She has been sneezing occasionally and seems to be breathing a little faster then the rest of the chicks. She otherwise is doing great. She is running around, eating, drinking, normal bowel habits. I'm not sure what to make of this? She is growing well, is about 2 weeks old now and feathers are coming in nicely. She doesn't seem to be struggling to breath at all. She has no crusting around the nose. Eye look great. She is very friendly and interactive. She literally looks fine except for the occasional sneezing and breathing faster then her chick family. She is the only easter egger I have and I wonder if it is just normal for some breeds to have different metabolic rate? I would hate to rush out and get antibiotics when she literally seems to be doing well except for breathing faster and occasionally sneezing. All the other chicks look great as well.

Any thoughts?

Are you giving them grit? Chick feed contains small amounts of grit but once they get about 2 weeks I like to give them a little extra. You can pick up "chick grit" at your feed store or can get some for parakeets & other small domestic birds. Chicks may eat too much of it instead of their food so it is better to sprinkle some sparingly on their food instead of offering a dish of it. You can offer a dish of grit in a couple weeks but keep an eye on how much they eat. They might eat a lot at first but then they will back off, or they should at least.

Your chick may be eating too much too fast or she may need some grit. If she is active, eating and drinking, there is no reason to suspect any illness. Good luck and keep us informed on her progress. :)

Idk exactly how much "yard" we have but we back up to about 130+ acres of fields the flock can roam in we are currently at 26 but are growing out over twenty chicks which we will keep some of and sell some of my total allowed this year by DH2B is 40 maybe next year it'll be 50 lol we are also looking to rehome a few of our current flock due to personalities in the flock not meshing. We have several bantams and EE as well as silkies so we want a pretty mellow flock.

This summer we are also going to start raising our own meat birds. We plan to do a few of both Cornish cross and heritage breeds.

I tried to help some!

Home stretch, think we have hubby on board.... Chicks in on Thursday. Question... Do I need to stalk the store like it is Black Friday, or will I be pretty safe if I get them after work at 1:30?

We have three acres...petitioned our neighbihood 6 years ago to get 6 chickens and a coop... we now have 14 adult chickens and 3 bantams... and a dozen more babies in the house... but we will rotate older bids for babies and raise the roos for meat.

So bunny friends...what breeds do you have? Would like to get one or two for my daughter but have to convince the hubby... good breeds for kids? prefer minis for size ( i grew up with californians and they were huge!)

Hope everyone is getting out to vote today!!

Spring Soccer season here so winter coats and hats coming out!
