It seemed larger than an eagle lol BC I did consider that but it did seem to have a smaller head and larger wings proportionally and a more golden tint especially to the hackle feathers. Normally I would love another look at it... Preferably just a few blocks over away from my flock.

Bigz we are looking at frost again tonight. I had a few garden plants bite the dust on the last frost so fingers crossed here. Bought a ton of flowers for the front bed. Can't wait to start all the planting!!!! Love my dirt manicure!!

I hope we skip the frost tonight. my plum trees were loaded with blossoms and BEEs !!

My apple tree hasn't blossomed yet. good thing. the later the better for that ..

A tip for frost. If you get hit with frost, like say, on your apple blossoms..
Get up early in the morning,, BEFORE the sun comes up.
take your garden hose and keep spraying the frost off of the blossoms. I did this a couple of times and it works.
If the sun hits a frosted blossom or plant, the blossom or plant will die

If your tree is too large, just do a portion of it.. you will be surprised at how many apples you will still harvest .

OK, question on ventilation here in Wisconsin considering that winter will come again. I think we should run hardware cloth under the eaves and nothing else. The center of the roof is open and waiting for a metal barn coupla so heat and moisture can leave. Windows will be backed with hardware cloth as well so that they can be propped open during the summer. Steve thinks that we should close off the underside of the eaves with vented soffit. I don't think that will allow enough air to move, and he thinks if we don't the chickens will freeze.

Maybe the north and west sides in soffet and the east and south in hardware cloth. You should still get plenty of ventilation but not so much from the cold winds during the winter.

I think the vented soffits would give plenty of ventilation.
either way, the chickens will not freeze.
the cupola alone should be enough ventilation.

Seven years ago I hatched out a bunch of chickens for friends; one that took a long time to work out of the shell the kids named Amy. Amy ended up being a rooster, but he was sweet as can be. He took great care of his girls and a few years ago almost died protecting his flock. Today he met his natural end. A nice long life for a mutt rooster. He was given a proper burial at the farm.

Sofit vent is meant to provide enough air for natural condensation and moisture in an attic, chickens give off a LOT more.
