Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Jim, you should have no problem rooting the grape vines. I have rooted them before. Unfortunately I no longer have grapes growing here. Those were planted elsewhere. If you end up with too many starts, I would love to give them homes.

I hope you're right. I have done a bit of research on u tube and it seems that you can do it at any time of the year.

the first info I had said to wait until the leaves came off.
so I waited.. now when I do more reading, i find that people do it with the leaves still on.

HOWEVER, a lot of the u tube info is from Texas, or California. our situation is different here in the Nort ..

I am going to go ahead and do it as soon as the roof is done. (tomorrow I think).

Do you have any tips for me ? I need all the guidance I can muster ..

I should take pictures so that you all don't think I was fooling you all along..

we had fresh baked potatoes and baked buttercup squash for supper with a ham slice. I could have made a meal with just the potato and squash.. the ham came from one of the local markets where they smoke their own.

I am at half time from the TexasTech and Oklahoma U game. I like the college games . I don't really care who wins or loses, with the exception of the Badgers ..

You could buy steak,   but not get the quality ..
way back when,   when I worked for other people.  I took vacation to work on my house that I was building for us.
My boss decided he needed me and called me in to work off of my vacation..  winter was coming and I was really pressed for time.  can we say "P.O.'d" boy and girls ?

I have the tiny roof all prepped and ready for the metal roofing.  now I have to make a cardboard pattern of where the flue holes will go and transfer the lines to the metal and cut out the holes..  then it is all down hill after that..
I will be very happy to never have to go up on the roof again.

the potatoes are in the basement and the 2 dozen buttercup squash are in the wheel barrow in the garage.

I will be cutting a lot of grape vines for rooting. I never did it before, so I hope it works for me.  otherwise I will be buying grape plants.  but that could get expensive for the project I have in mind..

got a record of 10 eggs yesterday..  those freeloading hens must be paying attention to the ones that are laying.

ETA:

I got most of the metal roofing cut and about ready to install..  I am waiting for roofing screws to arrive with Annie.
looks like I will be finished tomorrow.

I normally let my chickens out at 6 am and I let the dogs out at the same time. Everytime I sleep in I can hear my meat birds making a fuss in their pen. I thought they were fighting. This morning they were out there making noise again. My husband got up and looked out the window (I didn't have my glasses nearby) and there was a fox pestering them. He goes "it's that pretty little red fox that hangs around. I surprised you aren't missing more birds." Thank goodness for the dogs.

DH woke me up last night/this morning asking if I had locked in the birds. Yes, I did - why do you ask? He heard a 'Yote really close, like in the garden area close. He was surprised I didn't hear it - well, probably because at 2 am I was sound asleep and snoring in the bedroom on the other side of the house, lol. The garden is about 100 feet from the house, 100 feet from the chicken coop.

The cash croppers combined all the corn and bean fields in the neighborhood over the last couple of days. So most of their cover for coming and going is now gone. Not surprised that a coyote come that close to the house, probably looking for a new route home. Clearing the fields tends to make them range into odd areas. With the dogs in the yard (100 lb Shepherd and 60 lb setter) , I don't expect a coyote to become too much of a nuisance. There are a lot of old, overgrown fields for them to hunt in.

My first thought on that fox was that it was someone's pet; but it could also be a young one. Maybe a city slicker trapped a fox and decided to rehome it to your neighborhood. It doesn't sound like it was stumbling or anything to indicate sickness ... Hopefully one of the neighbors takes care of it for you.

Tearing out the fence around the garden today. Took the chicken tractor over to let them eat down the last of the weeds and the plants that are still in there. Also starting to get serious on winterizing the coops. Picked a couple of dozen more mushrooms again today. Hubby is in full "addicted to sitting in the woods" mode. That means that nothing else matters except him being in the woods. Hasn't managed to get a deer yet but......

good afternoon or; early evening at this time of year.

I didn't do it.. I didn't finish the roof. I started out with a flannel shirt and a winter vest. the vest came off in short order. then as the day wore on, it gradually got colder and windier . I had Annie hand up the piece of roofing that fit around the flues. if I would have climbed down the ladder for it, I wouldn't have had the gumption to climb back up.

I also ran out of brown aluminum trim pieces. I have plenty of white. now I have to come up with a plan how to trim with the white. that was not my original idea. but I think I can come up with something that will look OK..

got 10 eggs again today.. it shouldn't be too hard to pick out the 6 freeloaders.

cory. you are fortunate to know how to do body work..
that collision would cost more than $6/lb if you took the truck to a body shop..
I never got into body work. I used to do all of my own mechanic work, though. so I drove runty holey vehicles that ran real good. LOL

I never went mushroom hunting .

they say the most determined bow hunters are ex's.. LOL

Now I just wish I could get tickets!

I took my sis to Devils Lake yesterday so she could have a day off. My nephew was recently diagnosed with type I, and since it is her birthday on Monday I thought I would give her a day off. We hit the bluffs, had lunch in Prairie du Sac, and then headed to Wollersheim's.

Popped in on BigFam for a sec too.

Well, now my personal butcher shop is open. Hubs got a buck. Better not have been the one I had my eye on!!! Cory, you want to stop over and take care of it for me???? I don't have to "go" mushroom hunting for these. We inoculate logs and grow shiitake mushrooms. I have hunted the fall mushrooms with good luck this year though. Plenty of hen of the woods and chicken of the woods in the freezer.
