In response to Chikenscratch The "experts" say viability decreases rapidly 7 days after being laid. I have heard of people incubating eggs up to 2 weeks old with varying results. (not more than 40%)
what you say is true, but the 40% I do not agree with.
if a chicken lays all of her own eggs to incubate, it takes her about 2 weeks to lay a dozen.
and she usually has close to 100% hatch most of the time.
I met a woman who saved eggs for a month before setting them, and she claimed almost 100% in her Hova bator.
I cannot attest to her honesty because I only met her once.
but she never lied to me before..
