Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning,

you don't have to dig your fence wire a foot into the ground.
after you have your fence built, just lay some chicken wire flat
on the ground all around the outside of the fence wire. cover it
with mulch and that will prevent any digging under the fence.
much easier to do , too.

domestic ducks and geese barely even look at wild flocks flying overhead. they don't fly, mostly because they are too fat.
muscovys do fly. up onto rooftops, onto cars, sometimes into trees. usually just short flights, but I had one that I bought fly across a 40 acre field and I never saw it again.

Brian had geese that would fly about 1/4 mile to his pond, and then fly home again.

Just to throw the monkey wrench in; Call ducks can and will fly away. Clipping their wings is not a big ordeal.

Job is going well.

I am relocating from the Fox Valley area of the state to the Salem area. Doing weekly commutes right now and house hunting. I am so excited we will finally be able to get chickens and my Calls!

Holy Cow bl4 that's one heck of a commute. Hope you enjoy your new location. Prolly end up a Bear fan fore long.

Bring on the sunshine tomorrow.

worked days and came back for third tonite. Needed today off for the furnace install so my work let me do this instead of burning a vacation day. Gotta work a half of a shift on Saturday and then it's time to build my shed. Or atleast get a good start on it. Gonna pick up some gravel today and make a pad for it. Gonna be a busy beautiful weekend.

good morning,
sunny already, i hope it keeps it up.

I hope my pick up is ready for pick up.
it has most of my sockets and breaker bars in it.
I need them for taking the spring teeth off of my cultivator.

I would like to plant sweet potatoes this year.
I have never done this before.
any suggestions ? anybody .....

I am going to let the chickens out early today.
I am going to kind of watch to see which ones go back into the
coop at around 11;oo to noon.
those should be the 5 out of 17 that are laying.

sorry Jim. Only experience I have with sweet potatoes is eating them. I'm pretty good at it tho if you want pointers on that

thanks Corey, but I have the eating part , down pat.
I just have been doing some studying on utube about them,
I think this far north is going to be a problem as far as the
growing time goes.
they need it warm and don't tolerate cold very well.
and it takes about 100 days .

I spent some time outside and got the three middle teeth off of the cultivator. and also the culter..
it took 5 different sizes of wrenches.. old machinery ..

I wish I knew someone with a sand blaster. that cultivator would look real classy with a fresh paint job.

@jvls1942 I was reading about growing sweet potatoes recently, maybe an article in the GB Press Gazette.

Our season is a little short for sweet potatoes, but the article said we northerners could grow them - be sure to pick the short season ones and "grow the varieties that farmers in the area grow". How to figure that out is beyond me, as I don't know anyone who grows them...

all the farmers around here grow white potatoes.

Maybe growing them in containers is the way to go up here.
Those southern people don't know how lucky they are..
