Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

What a beautiful afternoon to work outside. The list just goes on and on. Hopefully going to butcher my first round of meat birds tomorrow. Put my old truck on Craigslist. I got some extras for my other truck I'm wanting to get so time to part with my work truck. Hope everyone's getting some work done in the gardens!

Yep, welcome to the thread linda....bunch of good folks here.
Time to report about the 8th annual chickenbash.... for those that were never here...
It was a great time for those of us that attended ..... the weather was almost perfect, and the conversation was a total blast for me!
It will continue next year, so mark your calendar for the week end after memorial week end....We always use to share a bunch of pics, but that seems to be years gone by now....no biggie...I have a bunch in my brain...maybe next year for some...if not, you are missing a good time among friends...maybe next year for you... but it will rock on!
Jim was missed and expected to show....but life gets in the way at times, and we always realize stuff you can't control.... Next year we will fix a ride for you if you can't make the drive....if you would accept it.

I missed only 2 of the bashes. I hate that.. maybe I will take someone up an a ride. I might have to..

my potatoes came up today.about an inch tall, but now they will really push .

I took Ollie and went after the poplar tree stumps. most of them were rotted enough to just push out. but there always has to be one stubborn one in the bunch. I dug deep all around it with the bucket and bit by bit whittled it down to below grade.
then I pushed all the dirt back into the hole and leveled it out. not a real good job of leveling, but after the dirt dries out a little more I will rototill it and plant some grass seed.
it is amazing what a guy can get done if he does just a little each day.

anybody need roosters ? I have 5 of them. free, take your pick.
one is a purebred
Ginger Red Old English.
two are black back with red necks.
idk what breed, but one in particular is gorgeous in the sunlight.
the last two look simply deeelicious..

HAPPY MONDAY
we were woke up at 2 am this morning by Angel barking and howling to find a big momma bear AND her two cubs in the Jackpine tree next to our back porch trying to get the bird feeder I had intentionally hung too high for a bear to reach from the ground. Half awake, trying to get my brain to work, I was able to figure out what was causing all the racket because the very large windchime I have (had) hanging in the tree was swinging wildly even tho there was no wind. I Aimed my flashlight and there was one of the cubs on the limb it was hanging on knocking it around and trying to pull it up! The little stinker! Needless to say my poor windchime soon went crashing to the ground with the pipes scattered at the base of the tree. Both of the little furry brats were "huffing" at me the whole time I was yelling at them to go back into the woods. finally, one at a time, the whole family backed down out of the tree and scampered off. The cubs were cute, the huge momma, not so much LOL. What was really funny was an old lady in her nightgown and the old man in his boxer shorts, standing on their back porch in the middle of the night with flashlights yelling at a tree full of bears less than 30 feet away!!! :lau

good morning,

I got a cool start on building a couple of planter boxes which turned out to be not so cool after about an hour.
luckily I ran out of dick screws so I was "forced" to take a break..
I got one 2ft x 2ft planter together.
that will be either for beets or onions.
I will build another just like it after I go get some screws..
I just got a call on the intercom. Annie found a "whole bunch" of 2 1/2" screws for me.
no trip need to F&F now

later on I have to go get a bag of peat moss, though.

@chickisoup -that's quite an adventure at 2 am...or anytime really!
What a crazy busy weekend we had (no bears involved!)
Graduation party was a success. We had company all weekend. I worked Sat, ran all over heaven's 1/2 acre the rest of Sat and all Sunday...it was totally worth it, but I crashed last night! I think I fell asleep at 6:30 and was pretty much oblivious until this morning.
Chickens are doing great! I added another cube of pine shavings and left it pretty much in a big pile.
I came back out and, sure enough, they'd scratched it all out evenly!
I'll have to get some pictures and ask which ones are for sure boys on another thread since they're 8 weeks old now.
It's funny how much they are still changing. I have an Easter egg that had all gold feathers and no discernable muff last week, now this week she has black feathers in there too and a big ole muff, man is she pretty!
Garden is surviving, DH was upset that I didn't get it watered yesterday :(
Thinking about getting some rabbits later this year since I've talked myself out of pigs and there's little chance I can talk DH into goats or sheep :barnie
At least beef cattle are in our not so distant future. Looking forward to that...oh, and eggs... can't wait for the eggs!!! :celebrate

Good morning!

I'd love to see pictures of all your gardens and planters and puppies and growing chicks. I am hoping to get some cedar for some raised beds. There is too much to get done for it to happen this year though.
