Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

well, GG, have a nice and safe trip.
no matter how careful you are, there are idiots on the road..

No chicks here, Jordan picked them all up..
However, this morning the duck eggs started to hatch.
2 muscovys so far.
I have about 180 eggs set..

the 10 puppies have their eyes open now. and they can travel on their legs without squirming along like maggots..
it is time to put up the puppy fence.

Yep, busy here like everyone else. And also in regards to mixing your own concrete...the big load of concrete gravel can sit there for future projects that always seem to occur. It's the best way to go for getting er done....Jim is right about waiting for the trucks, and the amount delivered is always a issue of some kind or another...mix your own and be spot on....every project...just sayin.

Spent the day in Madison yesterday with the family. My son turned 12 last week and we did a shopping trip and ended with Cold Stone Creamery ice cream. Taking him to see Cars 3 today. Got a replacement for my honey crisp that didn't make it from last year. Moved a bunch of hostas. Trimmed all the trees that I bump into when mowing and cleaned up that mess. Busy busy busy. Laters.

good point Brent,
How many times I calculated exactly what I needed and the load was either too much , or worse, not enough..

On small jobs, you can always poke stones into the "mud" and make up for small shortages.

have 2 muscovy babies in the bator.
these eggs are not due yet.
but some of them might have been sat on before they were collected.

the puppies eyes are open, and now they are getting around using their legs. getting better at it by the hour.

I went out late in the afternoon and rotilled the beans, tomatoes and potatoes.did them all twice..
then I hilled about a dozen tomato plants. lots more of them to do.
still only 2 ducklings. muscovy.

We got 4 loads of wood this weekend. The pile is getting bigger everyday. Should have enough for this winter by the end of July.
Our new rooster seems to be adjusting well. He likes the roost bar.

We don't plan to pour cement for the new chicken coop. I'm trying to do DL, but it gets smelly fast. Nate doesn't think it works on cement, I think we just need more ventilation. So we're gonna try a dirt floor. Still don't know where I'm going to build it b/c I want meat rabbits too and I have to figure out how I'm going to house them yet (3 sided lean to type or complete building)
But we were so busy with getting wood and the fish fry :drool we haven't finished leveling the spot for the pad yet!
So much to do yet...and I'm tired.
Well, gotta work at my regular job today... hope I can stay awake! :th
Take care all,
jean

Hello Wisconsin friends!

I'm from Wauwatosa (MKE suburb) and will be all ready for my first backyard chickens around the 2nd week of August. Was thinking of getting 3-4 bantam Easter Egger pullets, but they seem hard to come by!

1. Anyone have 3 girls available around that time? I'd be willing to travel for pick up. Also thinking of checking out the Milwaukee State Fair for any 4-H chickens looking for a good home. :)

2. Are there any threads on here about bantam EE's? I didn't see any in my search!

3. Last question - does anyone know about how big their eggs are or how often they lay? Not that it's that important, but I was just curious since I haven't found a lot about them. I'm too new shy/afraid to start a new thread haha.

Thanks!!

Hi! I don't have any info on the bantam EE's, but I love my full size EE's! They are shy, but loud and SO pretty.
I got a roo or 2 out of my 3, but looking forward to colored eggs!
Chickens are awesome and I smile just being around mine.
Don't be afraid to start a thread, everyone here is so welcoming and full of useful info. Jump right in, make yourself at home, ask any questions you need answered and most of all...post pics! We love seeing chickens!
Again, welcome! So glad you joined us!

Welcome. I have some EE hens that I got this spring. Not quite old enough for eggs yet, but they are the sweetest girls. I bought mine from a feed mill and got sexed pullets. They are soooo friendly and I can't wait for the colored eggs. Bantams will give you much smaller eggs. I have some bantam silkie hens and they usually give me an egg every day to every other day. But with the silkies they are constantly going broody on me.
