Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hello Wisconsin friends!

I'm from Wauwatosa (MKE suburb) and will be all ready for my first backyard chickens around the 2nd week of August. Was thinking of getting 3-4 bantam Easter Egger pullets, but they seem hard to come by!

1. Anyone have 3 girls available around that time? I'd be willing to travel for pick up. Also thinking of checking out the Milwaukee State Fair for any 4-H chickens looking for a good home. :)

2. Are there any threads on here about bantam EE's? I didn't see any in my search!

3. Last question - does anyone know about how big their eggs are or how often they lay? Not that it's that important, but I was just curious since I haven't found a lot about them. I'm too new shy/afraid to start a new thread haha.

Hi neighbor! I'm right across the street from tosa, and am going to the fair too. I think Cackle hatchery has some bantam we and they have a city deal for low numbers of chickens. Are you limited to 4 like MKE proper?

good morning,
the picture worked for me..
it is a goat.
really cool out this morning,
I am thinking a cuppa, and then out to the corn patch and see what damage I can do..

anxiously waiting for DD to come and help me transplant tomatoes.

Nephew Jake said he could come in 3 weeks to help me install the four new bedroom windows.
more anxious waiting.

no more duck eggs hatched. .
I called Jordan to come pick up the measly four that did.. hardly pays to drive 50 miles round trip just for that many..

yesterday I posted my puppy ad on CL S.W. Minn. it got flagged right away.. F*$%ing tree huggers..
but I did get one response before it got flagged.

ETA:
I guess the 4th wore all you younguns out.
I got out while the temp was in the mid 50's and
began pulling weeds. I got about 20 feet down 7 rows done. that's about 20% of the patch.
the corn is way more than knee high by the 4th of July.. Nice deep green leaves..

I am going to go back out and rake up the weeds and compost them, then run the rototiller through the whole patch and maybe weed some more by hand..
Notice that I said "maybe".. It is getting hotter out there..

Try posting on Craigslist but in the farm and garden section.

Glad it is cooler today, will plan on pruning tying up the other tomato rows today and hope to get a photo to share. Rained in Mosinee when I picked up my son, no rain reported at home, hate it when it misses us like that. Hung a bag of beets on a door so that we could pet some puppies. Guy must have thought I was there to sell shower rings, never answered......:lau

good sunday morning,
cool outside.
I hope it does not rain during the day, today.
guess I will go make a potta and then pet puppies.. they are responding to human contact now.
thinking of a menu where beets can be included.. meatloaf comes to mind..

DH really needs to stop coming up with more projects to start. Went to town for an air conditioner - found what we were looking for, but it took 5 stores and over 4 hours of shopping.

The other day the light at the back door burnt out. DH went to change the bulb and the entire fixture fell off the house and shattered. We found a replacement, but when he went to change it out the wires crumbled. He needs to run new wire from the fusebox. We decided to go ahead and replace the back door since he will be knocking holes in the wall there anyway. Big decision to make - fiberglass or wood? This is an old arts and crafts style house with the original mahogany stained wood trim - most of it has never been painted.

I need to go find the tomato plants in the weed bed...
DH finally ended up hooking the vacuum system to the lawn mower and mowing the backyard - he was nice enough to dump the first 2 loads into the chicken run. Toss in some sunflower seeds and they are happy chickens.
Have a good Sunday, y'all

well, can't stall any longer. Weather is gorgeous and cool! It's going to be a great work day!!! On the final cuppa, had my breakfast and the pup has had her nap on my feet. Time to get outside and do something with all those supplies I brought back from the big city yesterday. Looks like the coming stretch of weather will be perfect for moving the littles outside starting tomorrow so I need to get the netting and new feeders hung.
Have a blessed Sunday everyone!!!

Church is done, back home. There was a couple celebrating their 50th today, our 22nd was yesterday. Biscuits and gravy coming together while hubby replaces the spindles in the lawnmower deck. Pretty noisy in the garage as he was having to "force the pieces" what with having no press. Good luck on your project Chickisoup, hope it goes easier than Wyo.
I wonder if beets on the doorknob will be the new zucchini in the mailbox?

Please, no zucchini ..
the same thing happened with our outside light by the door. the bulbs are OK, the fixture just pooped the bed ..
have a new fixture to install, but the drop cord will have to do until I get a round tuit ..

today I removed all the spring teeth and put the hilling discs back on. I put them extra wide. I didn't want hills, but I did want raise beds. they worked like a charm.
I am thinking of running the tiller down the middle of the raised beds with the furrowing attachment on.

this is all experimental for next year's garden preparation.

the puppies are moved out onto the deck for tonight. getting too messy in the house.
If they do well on the deck, tomorrow they will be going to the big fly pen converted to a dog kennel. it is 11 feet x 25 feet.
there are plenty of weeds in it for the pups to explore and get lost in..
they have a super big dog house and a large tarp for shade.
sounds good , maybe I should move in..

Finally turning out to be a nice day here...although any day without rain is a nice one here.
Gonna get the weber ready for indirect cooking in a minute or three...I have a 6 1/2 lb chicken cut into the classic 8 pieces...I'm gonna do the potato cut in half and stuffed between with red onions and wrapped in foil....7 layer salad for starters....gotta love the nueskes bacon on there.
I think you would like my take on zukes Jim....even the slightly larger ones, hollowed out and filled with meat loaf and grilled to perfection just might change your mind about them.
Have fun, stay safe...bigz
