Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I hope to never go through a whole house-hold move again. This is our third and final house ... I hope. I told DH that I will be leaving feet first.

I received an order chicks. It is supposed to be 6 layers and 4 jumbo Cornish. Cute little buggers. I have them in a "brooder" out in the barn with a heat mat from Fleet Farm and a heating pad from Walmart. I think the heat mat is too warm for them, they are sitting on the fleece cover for the heating pad. I was worried about putting them out in the barn with the 43 degree nighttime low, but no worries now. They are thriving and very active.

good morning,
I got up very early.
all cuppa'd up and did all I needed to on the computer already.
just waiting for the fog to lift so it is not too damp to start working outside.
tomorrow by this time we will be on the road to drop off the last girl puppy.
If we ever move, I am not going to take anything along.. I guess I have the feet first mindset, too..

Hey Wisconsinites!

I am the director for the central district of the Cream legbar club. We are working on having legbars accepted as a breed by the APA.

We have a qualifying show coming up the last weekend in Oct. It is at Hutchinson Minnesota. (south of St Cloud).

If any of you have legbars and could show them it would be appreciated. We need as many as we can get there. Show quality or not, they just cannot be disqualified. (we need for in each class to make it through, cock, cockerel, pullet, hen)

If you could find a way to show one or a dozen your legbars would thank you as they would no longer be a second class non-accepted chicken breed when everything is done and over...

This is for the Cream colored birds, not the whites (yet) but I do show my whites at the same time..

Thanks..Contact me for details

Hello everyone and good evening! Hope you all are well!

We lost a chicken this weekend while it was free-ranging. We're thinking a hawk got it. Theo didn't do his job! :(

We've been real busy getting ready for winter around here. Cutting trees, cutting back perennials & the berry patch, planting some last minute transplants, getting the new composter started, and now I've got to process a few chickens, rhubarb & horseradish.

I was wondering if anyone will have fertile orpington eggs for sale for the Easter Hatch? I'd consider rhode isl reds and red stars too. These were all good layers for us in the past, friendly, and not skiddish. The welsummers I hatched out are really skiddish and though I'll keep them for a year, they'll be culled prior to next years winter. What is a good number to keep at a minimum over the winter? Is 2 too few?
I will have orpingtons from a pen with black, cuckoo and chocolate (and one jubilee). I could ship you eggs if it's not too cold.

Nice Late Summer day here today....nice to see you stop by bbp!

Yep, my tomato sauce turned out wonderful. Lasagna was excellent and the stuffed cabbage was to die for. The maters here are winding down...but the simple 12 plants produced bushels even in this not so good year for the fruit. Space them well and all is good.

I still think you are gonna miss the small town of wega bl4.

Our house is empty, and the trucks have arrived in Lake Geneva.

BigZ, I have lived in small towns my whole life. I think I will enjoy relaxing on my own spread, without interference from the neighborhood.

:)

good morning,
I am having trouble typing this morning,
I am on my first cuppa and I can't seem to
put it down..

we met a young man at I/39 and I/90 on
Cascade Mt Road.
He took our last girl buppy to So Dak.
she will be living on a sheep and cattle ranch.
with a 14 yr old girl and a 12 yr old boy .
I think she fell into a rose garden..

now we have just two boys left.
I just talked to a lady from Ohio who has a
pygmy goat farm and lots of chickens and
more coyotes than she can stand. she wants
two dogs.
I am going to give her a real good deal.
I don't want to be stuck with 4 dogs.

I have one long wall of the new shed all framed and over half sided. I will stand it up after it is all sided..

It rained hard for a short time at 5:27 AM.
then the cool air came into the window and I went back to sleep..

On a roll today. Getting all caught up with housework. Have to finish a small batch of sauce yet. My EEs are laying really well now. Egg size is starting to increase. Jim it is great that the last 2 pups get to go together. They can be life long buds. I bet you will miss them even though it is a lot of extra work. My skunky butt is growing fast now that he has been wormed. I think we are getting past the biting stage. He is a BIG time snuggler which I love!!! I ran over one of my fainting goats yesterday. Scared the siht out of me. Jumped out of the truck and she is laying in front of the tire on her side bleating. I am thinking I am going to have to put her down. Well I moved the legs, felt the back bone, poked at the belly and ribs and she got up and walked away. Had a slight limp but this morning she seems fine other than a bit stiff. My daughter would have kicked my butt if she were seriously hurt. It is her favorite goat! She is just so darn friendly that she has no fear of vehicles or anything else! Hopefully she does now.

I got the wall all sided, trimmed off the excess siding ends and it is ready to stand up.
I did the calculations for the rafters and the story pole .. the story pole will support the ridge beam and space it correctly for height.
(if I calculated correctly)..

I can honestly say I never snuggled a skunk.
or ran over a goat..

I listed the last two puppies on BestFarmBuys.
I put them under the heading of sheep.
there are hundreds of sheep ads on there.
any kind of farm ad you can think of.
it is like craigs list, only not as many rules.
check it out.

I will be going out to cut the pattern rafter now..
