I'm pretty sure most municipalities now require you to have a permit for placing any permanent structures. Bah.

Yes, even the townships need their fee money's from permits.
We are in the middle of ag zoning, we are zoned ag, and my neighbor just got nicked for putting up a 3 sided run-in for his horses without a permit. He will need to pay for a septic permit and a building permit also.
Backstory: The place we bought was 40 acres - at the time we bought it, we still owned a house out in Wyoming, so we could only afford part of the acreage. It was listed for sale whole or split, so we asked for a split with the provision that we could buy the remaining 15 acres after we sold our Wyoming house. The seller actually picked our offer over 2 other ones that only wanted 10/5 acres and the house, so that was great. Before we had the Wyoming house sold, the realtor contacted us and said the guy who used to board his horses at our place wanted to buy the remaining acreage for pasture for his horses. They needed our permission to sell the land to him. DH convinced me to allow the sale - since the neighbor lives less than a mile down the road, he only wanted it for summer pasture for his horses, and what do we need 40 acres for anyway.
Today: A friend of neighbors is building a house, so he gave said neighbor the mobile home that he was living in, on condition that it be moved so he could start putting in the foundation for the new house. Neighbor moved the old mobile home- with a huge hole in the wall where the addition was - to the pasture next to us. He is thinking of moving there and selling his beautiful house and barn to his daughter. So now we will have crappy mobile home next door to us.
Time to plant a lot of trees.

Busy here today with more canning. Did 14 quarts of beets today for my daughter…...garden Is winding down. Cleaned up the mater cages and picked some broccoli and green peppers....hunting on the mind now in the near future.

Zoned C-2; so yes can have horses and the like. Black walnuts prevent the horses so build a coop instead. You need a building permit for everything now days....
I need to call Walworth County and see how many birds I can have, their ordinances are conflicting.

Can anyone recommend a hatchery that ships, that's near Manitowoc? Thanks!
I order my chicks from the local Ace Hardware Store in Oconto - limited selection but the chicks are delivered directly to the store and I pick them up there. No messing with the post office. The orders are filled by the hatchery in Beaver Dam; Sunnyside Hatchery, I think.

today I rearranged the spring teeth on the tool bar and chisel plowed the garden.
it was just beginning to rain as I started, but I got done before things got muddy.
then Annie drove me to Marathon Feed and I picked up a sack of winter rye seed. I hope to get it sown tomorrow, rain or shine..
I just go ahead and build whatever I want.
nobody knows what I have here so if I add something, nobody notices.. I am well hidden from the road.
but ,,, a chicken coop ??

The reason neighbor guy is now paying for a permit for his horse shed he built last year is because of the mobile home he moved to the property, lol. I think he was looking to get a septic permit for the mobile home and when they come out to look, they saw the shed.
As for leniency on mobile homes, we are an agricultural area and there are a lot of family farms that have added mobile homes to the homestead for the kids to raise their families in while they work the farm. Most of them are cash croppers though, so a lot of rented fields and BIG farm machinery on the narrow town roads.

today I want to drag the garden one more time if it is not too wet..then I will sow the winter rye seeds.

it is later today. I did drag the garden one more time and I did sow 50 pounds of winter rye..
If you want a good cardiac exercise; put 15 pounds of seeds in a bucket and walk and toss out handfuls until the bucket is empty.
do that three times until you use up a 50 pound bag of seed.
as long as I was out and about, I mowed the weeds in the small garden.. then I "chisel plowed" it. didn't sow any rye in there, though.. might not even use it, but at least the weeds are down
