Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Nice late winter day here today. The sunshine really makes a difference for making one feel better!
The hens are laying more now and 6 to 8 eggs per day with mature hens is the norm for now till more of the old girls pick up their pace. i don't provide extra light during the winter, giving the hens a chance to rest and rejuvenate their wellbeing. They do well with a good rest. It's something they deserve after all the seasonable laying.
I simply save enough eggs in the late fall to cover my needs till they start laying again this time of year.
Enjoy today and stay safe... bigz

I enjoyed most of today.
I fixed the bracket on Ollie. Gassed him up and
pushed a little snow around. That ice under the
snow finally caught me. I had to call a friend with
a 4WD to pull me loose. The whole parking area
turned to thin slush on top of the ice. but now the
sun can get at the ice.
if it freezes, that will be a different and unpleasant
story.
we had 43F here today. I was actually sweating .

Yep Jim, it was a nice day yesterday with some good melting happening. Today more snow on the ground and the wild turkeys hungry as can be. They clean out the bird feeders first thing in the morning being unable to get through the frozen snow. This month is the tuff one for them and determines if they make it through winter or not.

Stay Safe ...bigz

Evening all! 🙋🏻‍♀️

We've got our trees trapped down here and now we wait. They are flowing steadily so the wait won't be long. I bet I'll have enough tomorrow night to pull off.

Oh Jim...so glad to hear good ole Ollie is still with us 🤣🤣. But no seriously I was happy to hear you still had it.

Bigzio- thanks for the kind words! Our chickens can't determine if they're ready to start up laying yet. Out of my 7, I'm getting 1-3 right now. They pooped out 4 this weekend and I got all excited.....for nuthin'!

Snow is gone here and I'm starting to think about garden planning. We just received our Seed Exchange trials yesterday. I opted for beets, collards and sunflowers this year. You get three varieties for each trial so nine seeds pouches total. We've volunteered for about 5 or 6 years now and we just love doing it and being a little part in something much bigger.

Other than that...our youngest, Ryan (AKA boy wonder) moved back in with us in late Oct 2022 and is now a freshman at the college I worked at (Carthage College). You guys would not recognize him, he's now 6'6" at least. He's liking it and is having a great time.

We have people down here with there trees being tapped. A friend has 2 buckets full already. Im ready to start planting.

thanks, Ollie is like all of us old folks. He needs
his aches and pains taken care of regularly ..
He is 68 years old..
I have not seen any trees tapped around here, yet.
there are no bare spots in the snow anywhere..
the wild turkeys are swarming all over the cut
over corn fields. we saw one field with over a
hundred turkeys on it..
the snow is so deep, they are flying to get around.
