Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

First was night, the second day was mothers day we went to dinner came back it was day light yet starting into dusk, sunset came home chickens in trees, Yes chickens run in daytime. But, got couple cornered in barn. Must be more than 1 coon. Coon broke in got some more, than chickens back in the woods. Coon are hunting them at night. Got the three left last night put them back in barn, leaving door closed.
Raccoon will travel in daylight to food source, they are not bashfull.
The coon will be back and try gain entry. Will keep coming back.

I went out early today and dragged the garden again. it is about as ready as it will ever be.
question: how late can I plant sweet corn?
I want to plant it today, before it rains. but if I don't get it done it will be a few days before I can.
Serendipity. 89day, I think.

Funny thing is that it's the same coop and pen that
never had a problem with coons, until like you said Tor
an older smarter more strength coon comes along.
I'm lucky to have a second coop to hold the remaining birds until I can get the coop and pen secure.
Good thing I have peeps coming, because I don't have enough hens now.
Good Luck to everyone with the corn and coons and hens.

Stay Safe ... bigz

I'd still plant it! I still have to plant it! :p

If we can't get our coons to leave peacefully, I will be setting some box traps,.
have to trap some red squirrels again, too.
i feel like Daniel Boone.
it rained twice since i dragged the garden .
i am going to add a couple more tines to the cultivator/drag/chisel plow
i have a volunteer soft maple growing at the edge of the garden. i don't want the shade so i will cut it down. it is about 3o feet tall.
the squirrels have gratiously planted a few black walnuts around the property,. i will cut those down, too.
Could try playing a radio. I know that worked to reroute a fox who made a trail for themselves going right past our breeding pens to get to the farm across the road. Neighbor said it was going there catching rats. I guess they like rats more than chickens. :idunno

The red squirrels I leave alone until they start crawling on the house. Then my 20-gauge comes out. I get about a dozen per year. If they'd stay on the forest side, I wouldn't care, but they can do damage to the house.

That's so cute!

Stella sleeps on our brooders. Usually it's chicks, but this time it was the ducklings that got dropped off. Today I had 3-week-old chicks out in the yard, and she came over and plopped down by them. They're used to her. She's technically a barn cat from the Humane Society, and does catch her share of mice, but prefers being in the house.

I dragged the garden once more for good measure. Got the corn and planter ready and then it started to rain. we got 6/10 of an inch.
not good for planting, but good for the raised beds
we have not been leaving any food outside at night. last night I did not see the motion light go on. I hope the coons went down to the river to eat clams.
