Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

My concern would be the farmers field since it has been sprayed often. They do caution on the round up bottle not to allow farm animals to have access to the fields. The standing water could also have residue in it. just a hunch, but the only help I can offer.
Good Luck!

I agree with Brent. sprayed fields are not good playgrounds for pets.
yesterday i dragged the corn plot again. did a pretty good job of it, today i want to go get some buckwheat seed,. i don't know if i will plant corn next year, but the plot will be ready if i decide to.
i had to trim some lower leaves off of the peppers and tomatoes so i could squirt water at the ground below.
squash are forming, but the bees are still swarming all over the plants.

Any update to report Renee?
The cooper hawks are relentless here. I haven't had any losses lately, but only because the hens are being left out for a couple hours in the late afternoon while I supervise their movement.
I'll be glad when they (hawks) migrate south.
Deer were hungry for squash last night. They wiped out two big patches. They even nipped the tops on a number of potato plants. I think their ability to adapt to different plants is happening here. Dang

Morning. I still have no idea what happened with Little Terrel. The rest of the duck flock seems ok now that the weather has cooled off. They are acting all broody though and my drake is relentless with them. I have been catching them nosing around an ash pile. A couple years ago we cleaned out the fire pit and put it in the tree line. They have been rooting around in there for some reason. Which would explain the black poop. Not sure if that has anything to do with Terrel dying.

My goose has been sitting on 2 eggs for over a month, I am guessing the eggs aren't any good. I need to get the neighbor over to properly candle them.

We have seen a lot of hawks as well. So far we haven't had issues. May all go back to the loud mouthed gander I have. I really wonder how far away you can hear him. He has a set of pipes on him. I think he is adorable...others in the household have different options. :idunno

Hope everyone had a good weekend!!

Some of the sprays have some pretty strong residuals. Who knows if they are spraying any fungasides. Prices for grain are so low.

Anyway seen some labels with information like.... after spraying cannot be used or fodder for 60 days and cant plant such and such for 12 months.

Morning!!! Neighbor came over and checked the 2 goose eggs. She kind of scolded me for not knowing they were bad. Maybe I over looked the stinky egg part and was hoping for little ones to be running around LOL! Oopsie Poopsie :idunno ....She chucked the eggs and I destroyed the nest. The goose is NOT happy but I closed the hut door so she can't build a new nest. She needs to snap out of being broody.

Seems gardens are doing well in my area. Pop up garden stands all over by me. Corn is starting to tassel. Beans are a beautiful dark green. We were down by Waupaca this past weekend for the day and one bean field looked VERY ready, corn looked great. Farmers are on 3rd crop hay.

There was a barn fire near me yesterday. I work in the Dairy Ag business and will hear more today. As of yesterday, the animals and people were fine. Milk house/parlor not so much. It is a huge farm that owns many smaller ones in the area. Sad none the less.

Enjoy your day!

here we are in august already .
i never like to hear about barn fires. too often that is when small farmers give up farming.
the nice barns will never be built again.
so far my raised beds are doing great..
the pepper plants are about 3 feet tall and very bushy. large leaves. i have some peppers ready to be picked.
yesterday after i watered all the plants, i cut the top tips off of the tomato plants. they are at the top of the stakes. i don't need any more vines. maybe the energy will go into the tomatoes.
still haven't caught the woodchuck. set all three box traps, small , medium , and large. running out of shrivled peaches. he seems to enjoy them.
too bad about the goose eggs. maybe next year,,,,

Dont like to hear of fires as had one 1989 or 1990 burn the house to the ground.
Big farm like probably be fine. Electrical fire i bet milk house parlor. They will be set back, hope they had emergency plan to milk so dont throw the cows off.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeahhhh...They have several farms to choose from for the cows to go to. They will be fine. It was a tractor that started on fire that did it.

It is sad all and all...but that farm will be fine.
